The LeBron James era in Los Angeles has come to an end. James has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he’ll be playing elsewhere during the 2026–27 NBA season, according to Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania. If James leaves the Lakers this offseason, the Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, and Cleveland Cavaliers appear to be the most realistic landing spots.

How The Heat Could Pay LeBron $15M To Team Up With Antetokounmpo And Adebayo

James returning to Miami might be a pipe dream, but it’s a strong fit. LeBron would have a generational star in Giannis Antetokounmpo, an elite defender in Bam Adebayo, and the chance to run point guard again, as he did in 2020. Their potential starting lineup could be Davion Mitchell, Andrew Wiggins, James, Antetokounmpo, and Adebayo.

The roster suitability means the Heat could add LeBron. They already signed Wiggins to a three-year, $64 million contract extension and still have the option to sign veterans. This could be the perfect year for Miami to reload. The Heat could potentially stay under the first apron and still use the full $15 million Non-Taxpayer MLE.

How Golden State Can Land LeBron And Anthony Davis To Form The Ultimate NBA Superteam

The Warriors have the necessary flexibility to sign James and trade for Anthony Davis after Draymond Green declined his $27.7 million player option. A hypothetical trade for Davis would have to include Jimmy Butler, who is on an expiring $57 million contract while recovering from a torn ACL. Golden State would also have to include draft capital; the Warriors have two future firsts and four first-round swaps to work with in any deal, according to Yahoo Sports writer Kevin O’Connor.

Golden State’s potential starting lineup could be Stephen Curry, LeBron, Anthony Davis, Draymond Green, and Kristaps Porzingis. James and Davis were teammates on the Lakers from 2019 to 2025. In 2020, they won the championship against the Miami Heat.

From the Warriors’ perspective, LeBron and Curry finally become teammates, and Davis gives them the elite two-way big they have lacked for years. A core of Curry, LeBron, and Davis would immediately be among the favorites if healthy. A huge obstacle for them is health, and age concerns would become a major factor for a team built around veterans.

A Curry, James, and Davis blockbuster scenario would dominate the NBA conversation overnight. Until something concrete develops, it’s still firmly in the rumor and speculation stage rather than an active, completed transaction.

Could James Force A Shocking Cleveland Comeback To Play With Mitchell And Harden?

The Cavaliers could also emerge as a tempting route for LeBron, alongside Donovan Mitchell, with the potential arrival of James Harden fueling another candidacy. They can only trade Jarrett Allen, which they won’t do for him. Otherwise, they only have about $4 million to offer him in free agency. Their potential starting lineup could be Harden, Mitchell, James, Evan Mobley, and Thomas Bryant.

The Allen for James trade would address two needs in one fell swoop. Cleveland would reclaim the greatest icon in its history for the final stretch of his career, while Los Angeles would land the athletic and dominant center it needs to boost Luka Doncic’s game. Sometimes, the most unexpected endings are the ones that were always waiting their turn.

Home is where the heart is. LeBron was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and was drafted in 2003 to Cleveland. After returning to the Cavaliers in 2014, he fulfilled his promise by delivering a championship in 2016 by defeating Golden State.

End Of My LeBron James Rant

Objectively, I’m having a hard time thinking of a team for James to join, outside of Los Angeles, that is not Miami. The only two teams outside of the Lakers that have a chance are the Cavs and the Heat.

Cleveland has some issues that matter. I don’t know if LeBron wants to deal with Harden and the way he plays, and the way he tends to disappear in the playoffs. Kobe Bryant said years ago that his style of play would not win championships. Kenny Atkinson does not have Finals experience as a Head Coach, and James has never played under him. Donovan Mitchell does not have experience in the Finals.

Erik Spoelstra has won on the big stage. He has coached six Finals: four with James and one against LeBron. Antetokounmpo has won a championship. Adebayo has played in the NBA Finals twice. James has experience playing under Spoelstra; LeBron knows what’s expected of him and his teammates. He has also played with Adebayo on Team USA. James’ trade rumors will continue to dominate the NBA offseason until Los Angeles makes a final decision on his future.
