De’Aaron Fox and the San Antonio Spurs may be heading towards a breakup this NBA offseason. There are more important positions that need to be filled than a veteran guard occupying a spot that should go to one of their younger guards. These are three teams who make the most sense if a trade were to happen soon.
Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons had a major flaw revealed during this year’s postseason. They desperately need a secondary ball handler next to Cade Cunningham. It may make more sense to target a wing with ball-handling capabilities, but the option of adding Fox would have to be entertained. They wouldn’t have to dig too deep into their depth to make this trade work, as they have enough salary fillers to send to San Antonio with picks.
Projected starters following Pistons trade rumors:Fox, Cunningham, Thompson, Harris*, Duren*
Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves have the easiest pathway to get Fox onto the team. A swap involving Julius Randle should interest both teams looking to stay in contention in the West. This gives Anthony Edwards some much-needed backcourt help while improving the tempo of the offense. Adding Fox would give Minnesota one of the best starting fives in the NBA.
Projected starters following Timberwolves trade rumors: Fox, Edwards, McDaniels, Reid, Gobert
Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are in an interesting spot right now. They are still young, but have the skill to make the playoffs. All they’re really missing is that point guard who can take them to the next level. Fox would be perfect for them. He could take some of the playmaking responsibilities away from Scottie Barnes while maintaining the ability to play off the ball. RJ Barrett would likely be the main piece going back to the Spurs.
Projected starters following Raptors trade rumors: Fox, Walter*, Ingram, Barnes, Poeltl
End Of My De’Aaron Fox Rant
The Spurs have their backcourt set for the future with Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle. Moving off of Fox makes the most sense at this point and adds depth to their roster or fills a more important need. These teams make the most sense in terms of landing spots for the point guard.
