The Dallas Cowboys have just acquired quarterback Joe Milton III and a seventh-round pick in 2025 from the New England Patriots for a fifth-round compensatory pick from the Cowboys in 2025.

Potential help may be on the horizon.

Former backup signal caller Cooper Rush left to sign with the Baltimore Ravens, leaving them with only Will Grier on the current roster.

If the Cowboys are still in the market for younger talent, here are some potential replacements who could be selected in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

Dallas Cowboys QB Prospects

1. Kyle McCord- Syracuse

Dallas Cowboys
Quarterback Kyle McCord – Syracuse Football

McCord enters this draft class with a humble yet confident chip on his shoulder. He had already proven himself a winner at Ohio State University. He then transferred to Syracuse to prove he could resurrect that football program as a one-year option.

At 6’3″, 218 lbs, he did more than just excel in the 315. He shattered expectations. His 29 touchdown passes surpassed the old-school record of 26 held by Ryan Nassib in 2012.

McCord also threw for at least 300 yards in all but one game, where he threw 280 against VA Tech. More importantly, he won there, too. He led the team to its first bowl win since 2018 while also leading his team to ten wins since that same year.

McCord’s low draft stock may be because of his lack of athleticism and turnover problems. This is no joke, though. Like Dak Prescott, McCord is a magician in the pocket and has the right amount of mobility to stretch out plays.

With the Boys needing an affordable backup quarterback option, the former Orange signal-caller also provides quality talent and potential.

Should McCord be available for the Cowboys to take, they can spend their first couple of draft picks on day one starters while waiting for day three.

2. Jalen Milroe- Alabama

Dallas Cowboys
Quarterback Jalen Milroe – Alabama Football

With amazing running ability to go with a big arm, Milroe is the most exciting quarterback prospect in a weaker quarterback draft class. He is a true dual-threat quarterback with great wheels, but he needs to improve on his accuracy.

The strong quarterback also brings with him the naturally gifted traits of the position, and he is compared to former Alabama quarterback and current Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts.

At 6’2″, 225 lbs, Milroe is a bigger version of Hurts with similar arm talent and athleticism.

While he doesn’t squat 600 lbs, he did throw for 35 TDs and 11 interceptions last year while leading his team to the Rose Bowl.

If the Boys want him to sit and develop into their bigger, faster version of Hurts, Milroe is a high-risk, high-reward prospect to draft in the second round.

3. Riley Leonard- Notre Dame

Dallas Cowboys
Quarterback Riley Leonard – Notre Dame Football

Leonard boasts many physical and mental traits needed to be an NFL backup quarterback. He also possesses a natural ability to be a leader and win big-time games.

At 6’4″, 216 lbs, Leonard finished his college career at Notre Dame with a bang. After three productive years at Duke, the dual-threat quarterback transferred to Notre Dame as a one-year player. He threw for a career-high 21 touchdowns and only eight INT’s while leading the Irish to the 2025 CFP National Championship game.

Leonard is very durable for a mobile quarterback. He’s found a way to make plays with his legs while avoiding the big hits.

For the Cowboys, he could be a more durable backup with a similar skill set and a less injury-prone version of Prescott when his career in Big D is over.

Look for Leonard to go on day three of the draft between rounds 4-5.

End Of My Dallas Cowboys Rant

With these three talented quarterbacks ready to contribute to the team, each one would be a valuable asset to back up Dak and play for the Dallas Cowboys in their own unique ways.
