Colorado State’s head coaching search has come to an end, as the program has reached an agreement with current University of Connecticut head coach Jim Mora.
After Norvell’s 2-4 start to the season, and interim HC Tyson Summers’ 0-5 record with one game remaining, a new winning leader is what CSU needs in the locker room…badly.
Mora’s Resume
The most important aspect of this signing is that Mora will bring a winning culture to Fort Collins. He has long-term experience coaching for both the NFL and the NCAA.
In the NFL, Mora was head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, giving play calls to the one and only shifty Michael Vick. Mora led the Falcons to the NFC championship in 2004.

Mora coached in Atlanta for three years, then one year in Seattle. He developed a greater interest in college football, leaving the NFL with a 31-33 record.
Mora joined UCLA in 2012, leading the Bruins to 4 PAC-12 bowl appearances and a 2-2 record. Mora stayed in California up until 2017, finishing with a 43-30 record.
After a five-year break from coaching, Mora got the call to be the head coach at UConn in 2022. Since then, Mora racked up an overall record of 27-23.
What To Expect?
It’s important to break down the kind of coaching style Mora will bring to Colorado, as there needs to be a revamped locker room and a change in morale.
Mora has professionalism and discipline. As mentioned in press conferences, he runs his college teams “the NFL way,” even at a college level.
High standards will be demanded of both staff and players. Coaches and players are expected to be prompt, organized, and consistent. With that model, the program lifts up.

Strengths & Challenges
When it comes to playcalling, Mora doesn’t like the labels of ‘west-coast, spread,’ etc. He describes his playbook as “multiple offense”. Mora prefers concepts over a fixed scheme.
Mora will adapt to the team’s personnel. Building your playbook around the talent you’re given should be most successful. It Is better than running a scheme that doesn’t fit at all.
However, Mora faces challenges with offensive inconsistency, especially when personnel changes and injuries disrupt rhythm. They can lead to stall drives and scoring droughts.
End Of My Colorado State Rant
I am excited for next season. After 4 years of mediocre football from Jay Norvell, I’ve been eager for some fun football from CSU. This season has been a complete shitshow with blowout losses or backbreaking 1-score games. Mora has the experience to deliver some entertaining football with this team, which has been lacking over the past few seasons. Can’t wait to see Moras’ press conference with the media to hear what he has to offer.
