Aston Villa are getting ready to swoop in and sign Juventus’s defender Federico Gatti. This is the perfect chance for the English side, especially since Juventus still can’t reach a deal with Gatti.
According to Sky Sport Italy, the delay in reaching a deal with the Italian side has put Aston Villa on alert as they also want the defender.
Villa aren’t the only ones, as Napoli are also reported to be interested in Gatti. So far, Juventus might lose one of their best players to either side.
The publication reported that Gatti’s contract will expire in 2028 and he is looking for a renewal. He is, however, asking for €3 million ($3.25 million) to reach a deal.
On the other hand, Juventus don’t seem to be willing to pay this amount for the center-back. This raise will make Gatti match the wages of some of his teammates, but the Italian side so far won’t accept their defender’s demands.
While talks with Gatti are on hold, Juventus already have one player that they are hoping to sign. Girona’s full-back Miguel Gutiérrez is the Italian side’s current target.
This focus on another player might not be in Juventus’s favor, especially since they should pay more attention to Aston Villa’s interest in Gatti. Things with Gutiérrez won’t be easy either, as Napoli are also interested in him.
Unai Emery’s side would hit the jackpot if they managed to sign Gatti. The Italian has already spent three seasons at Juventus so he might be ready for the next chapter in his career. During 105 matches with the club, Gatti proved himself to be a solid defender.
His importance also showed during the 42 matches he played this season. With his participation, Gatti undoubtedly helped Juventus book a spot for themselves in next year’s Champions League.
The English side should try and land the center-back to solidify their hopes in next season’s Europa League. While Napoli, who are also interested in Gatti, will play in the Champions League, Aston Villa might be a more interesting choice. It is predicted that Juventus will ask for €30-35 million ($31.5-$36.75 million) to say goodbye to Gatti.
This deal might be the perfect deal for Villa, especially since Gatti is still 26-year-old. He has a lot of room for improvement and this could easily happen if he was trained by Emery.
If Juventus won’t meet Gatti’s demands then they should be prepared to lose him for either Napoli or Aston Villa. The defender’s demands sound reasonable with how well he has been performing.
Juventus will also play in the Champions League next season and they would need a strong defensive line to be able to compete. Letting Gatti go won’t be a wise decision.
I would love to see Gatti at Aston Villa. Emery’s style is something to be admired and it would be interesting to see how the defender will develop if he joined the head coach’s side.
