The New York Yankees are stumbling through the second half of the 2025 season, which has fans fuming over their inconsistency and lack of winning. The Yankees sit in 3rd place in the AL East with a 60-53 record. Since June 1st, the Yankees are 25-31 in the win/loss column. A far cry from their 36-22 record when they ended the month of May. Returning from the IL is Yankees’ captain Aaron Judge, but despite his monstrous 2025 season so far, he may not be enough to get the Yankees over their summer bummer.
More Than Just A Boone Summer Swoon For The Yankees
Since the Aaron Boone era of the Bronx Bombers, the team has always had its growing pains in the dog days of summer. Since the 2021 season, the Yankees have had struggling summers that leave them limping into the postseason. Throughout July in these past seasons, they have had a record of 13-13 (‘22), 10-15 (‘23), 11-13 (‘24), and now 11-13 (‘25). While on paper it is easy to chalk it up to the ordinary Boone Swoon, it looks to be more than that with how the on-field product looks.
Despite the talent they have to knock the ball out of the park from time to time, the Yankees have left more to be desired when trying to win games. From egregiously sloppy plays on defense to the newly built bullpen losing a 6-0 lead and baserunning that has left fans scratching their head, this team has not been able to pull it together.
The biggest issue with Aaron Boone, above anything else, is his inability to acknowledge reality

You can’t watch the Yankees play 102 games plus how the season ended last year and say “this is a great defensive team.”
You can’t

Aaron Boone has been heavily criticized for his decision-making on the field and for failing to hold his players accountable to the media. From comments defending Volpe despite leading the league in errors, to letting Devin Williams pitch in the 9th inning when he has a 6 ERA in July that led to a game-tying home run by Joc Pederson, and most famously letting an injured Nestor Cortes Jr. pitch against Freddie Freeman in game one of the 2024 World Series. Boone’s handling of the team and his media comments have created a Yankees team that lacks the will to win.

While long stretches of losses do happen quite often for teams, especially during the grueling hot summer days of baseball, not many 90+ win teams would have those unless you’re the New York Yankees. From 2020 to 2024, 41 teams have had 90+ win seasons.
Out of those 41 teams, only five have had equivalent bad stretches like the New York Yankees. These were only one-time scenarios for the 90+ winning teams, and none have repeated a losing stretch comparable to the Yankees.
The Boys In Pinstripes seem to have issues not only on the field, but off the field as well. Their philosophy on losing is a frustrating listen to fans of years past, with the team moving on from their loss and seemingly unable to learn from their previous game. The lack of accountability from the manager has given the Bronx Bombers an identity as a team that no longer represents the New York Yankees of old.
They have no sense of urgency to win and are accepting of their losses. The philosophy of this team will not get them very far, despite the amount of talent they have, without a regime change, and that may start with firing Aaron Boone.
Aaron Judge And His Monster Season For The Yankees
Aaron Judge looked to have a chip on his shoulder after losing embarrassingly in the 2024 World Series. In the off-season, the Bronx Bombers lost their chance of re-signing Soto. The baggage of the 2024 World Series was left on Aaron Judge, and he has been having yet another MVP-caliber season.
Before his recent injury, Judge had hit 37 home runs, 85 RBIs, and 129 hits. For his averages, Judge is averaging .342/.449/.711 with an OPS of 1.160. Judge is once again proving that he is the best offensive player in baseball today.

Another MVP-level season by Judge may be fantastic, but it only does so much for the rest of the team. The Yankees cannot solely rely on Aaron Judge to do everything for them, and Judge needs his supporting cast to play their roles efficiently and consistently if the Yankees want a shot at a World Series again. New additions such as Cody Bellinger and Max Fried have proved that they have the same mentality as Judge and have performed very well thus far.
End Of Yankees Rant
The 2025 season has been an up-and-down rollercoaster for the New York Yankees, but it has been a rollercoaster that has been on the same loop over and over again. The Bronx Bombers have been in this same predicament before and will likely limp their way into a Wild Card series if they cannot get through this hump and start a winning streak.
Even Yankees legends Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez have criticized this Yankees team and its current philosophies. Fans are frustrated, and the call for Aaron Boone’s job as the manager has never been louder. The sense of urgency has never been higher for the Yankees, and fans can hope they can kick it into gear before the postseason slips from their fingers in September.
