Jey Uso has dominated headlines in 2025 for good and bad reasons, following his ascension to the Main Event picture in WWE programming. The 39-year-old Yeetman from San Francisco is set for a high-profile match with the World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther, in what promises to be a pulsating encounter.
Uso’s first stint with WWE arrived some 15 years ago, and he went on to dominate the Tag Team Championship scene for the best part of 10 years. Alongside his brother, Jimmy Uso won the titles eight times. Jey Uso also won the SmackDown and Raw Tag Team Championships in a fledgling partnership with Cody Rhodes.
Jey and Jimmy Uso hold the record for the longest male tag team championship reign in WWE history, at 622 days, during their fifth reign with the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
Jey evolved to the role of Roman Reigns ‘right-hand man, and his “I Quit” clash with his cousin was one of the best matches in his career. Jey was heavily involved in the usual Bloodline shenanigans, which allowed Roman to win most of his title bouts in his historic 1,316-day reign as the Undisputed WWE Champion. While Uso received regular TV time in this role while also defending the Tag Team titles, more was expected from him.
When Jey Uso turned on Roman, it solidified his babyface status and WWE made the smart move of moving him to Raw, away from his cousin that was the headliner at Smackdown.
Aligning Jey with Cody Rhodes was a smart move. While their tag team title runs were short and sweet, it further endeared Jey to the WWE Universe. Things went up a notch when he adopted the ‘Yeet’ catchphrase, and that elevated him with the crowd, as his merch sales were off the charts.
Jey had a brief run-in as the Intercontinental Champion which did wonders for him and Bron Breakker, setting the tone for his current feud with Gunther. His Royal Rumble win was a massive vote of confidence by WWE, CM Punk and John Cena earmarked to win the event. He has had his critics in the build to his showdown with Gunther, but he’s predicted to win the World Heavyweight Championship come WrestleMania.
Jey’s push to WrestleMania has been firmly justified, and his winning the World Heavyweight Championship will be his crowning moment. Despite fans online ranting about his botched dive or slip in the ring, Jey will overcome Gunther and become a champion at WrestleMania 41.
