These WWE SmackDown results are from the go-home show, just one day prior to the WWE Money in the Bank Premium Live Event. The biggest takeaway: Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Meanwhile, several rivalries intensified heading into the event.
Punk opened SmackDown in the ring with a microphone, surrounded by ladders to cut a promo. After reminiscing about his previous Money in the Bank victories, he sat on top of a ladder and claimed he would become the first-ever three-time winner. After giving four of the other five participants their flowers, he was interrupted the moment he mentioned that he doesn’t fear Owens.
Owens said that nobody wants to see Punk win, and he’ll make sure that he can’t even walk out on his own, before winning and cashing in on Zayn. This didn’t sit well with the champion, who interrupted the quarreling pair and, in short, gloated with his championship belt in their faces.
The three SmackDown women’s Money in the Bank participants took on Raw’s three, in a six-woman tag match. The match itself was bland and mailed-in, with the focus on friction between the Raw participants rather than the in-ring action. Legend pulled off the pinfall victory for her team, and wasn’t finished there, giving both her teammates a Lash Extension post-match to set up the ladder match the following day.
World Tag Team Champions MFT (Talla and Tama Tonga), with Haku, faced War Raiders (Erik and Ivar). They were in the middle of a stiff match when Bakusai (Kyoki and Shinsuke Nakamura) appeared. The commotion allowed Haku to use a weapon, leading to the MFT’s victory. All three teams brawled after the match to end the segment.
The Miz, with Kit Wilson, went to whine in the ring about not having a birthday party, but was interrupted by Rhodes. He dispersed the pair, then took aim at “The Viper” Randy Orton, demanding to go face-to-face with him next week.
Danhausen was scheduled for a match against Gunther, but took a big boot pre-match while trying to curse him. The brutal punishment continued until Finn Balor rushed to attack The Ring General. There was a believable back-and-forth, but Balor ended up with the same fate.
After Charlotte Flair was attacked in the back, Bliss replaced her in this title match. The match itself was fairly simple, with Paxley once again shining over the others. A Cemetery Drive to Henley secured the victory, resulting in new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
These big boys brought a little something extra on this night, pulling out moves they rarely use. The Vision (Austin Theory and Jake Paul) jumped Williams and Lil Yachty, causing the referee to throw out the match. “The Young OG” Je’Von Evans and Penta rushed to help, but Bronson Reed joined The Vision to put the boots to everybody in sight.
The latest WWE SmackDown results saw Bliss and Paxley become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, while other rivalries boiled over. Rhodes-Orton continues to heat up, and Gunther-Balor does too. Don’t miss the WWE Money in the Bank Premium Live Event Saturday evening.
