Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss should break up, and Flair, The Queen, should go back to being a heel. The odd-couple act has reached its expiration date, and the breakup is a better story than anything left inside the partnership.
The pairing worked, and pretending otherwise ignores a year of good television. The chemistry between a 14-time world champion and a chaotic partner produced comedy neither woman could generate alone.
The purpose has been served. Working alongside Bliss humanized Flair, cooled off years of accumulated fan resentment, and reset a character that had grown stale through repetition.
Mission accomplished is not an insult. Staying longer only delays a payoff that gets less valuable the longer it waits.
Tatum Paxley run-ins are doing the heavy lifting now. When a tag team needs debuting wrestlers and interference finishes to win matches, the creative tank has run dry.
The August 7th SmackDown main event illustrated it. Flair beat Jade Cargill with help from a returning Bliss and Paxley, which is a finish that protects nobody and advances nothing.
Flair has said the quiet part herself. Speaking with Busted Open, she agreed she should be marketed as a main attraction while insisting the tag work is building toward something larger.
Charlotte turning on Bliss delivers months of receipts in a single segment. Every eye roll, every reluctant tag, and every moment of visible frustration becomes foreshadowing the instant the betrayal lands.
Flair and Bliss each get a full chapter out of it. Bliss inherits the sympathy program of the year, and Flair gets to stop pretending she enjoys any of this.
Babyface Charlotte has never worked long-term, and the record is unambiguous on that point. The genetically superior, robe-wearing version who looks down on everybody remains one of the five best heels of the modern era.
Bliss stands to gain as much as anybody. A sympathetic run built on being discarded by a trusted partner gives her the clearest motivation she has had in years. Audiences arrive already invested, because the friendship was real on screen.
The timing on her side works too. Bliss returned this year and has been used mostly in service of somebody else’s story. Reintroducing a star that way is fine, and keeping one that way is not.
Flair has also been open about wanting the singles spot. Agreeing publicly that she should be marketed as a main attraction while defending the tag work is a wrestler telling everybody exactly where she wants to be next.

The best version of The Queen holds a championship over the crowd’s head and dares them to boo louder. The comedy act never gets close to that, and another six months of tag matches will not either.
The timing is also unusually good. Rhea Ripley is out until February, Chelsea Green is injured, and Bianca Belair has no return date. The women’s title picture is more open than it has been in years and short on credible villains.
Book the funeral. Flair betrays Bliss, who gets the babyface run of her career chasing revenge, and The Queen walks into the fall as the arrogant, untouchable heel this division is missing. Fourteen world championships did not happen by accident, and none of them happened while she was somebody’s comedy partner. Send her home.
