Giannis Antetokounmpo
trade rumors continue to dominate the NBA offseason, with the Milwaukee Bucks facing major questions about their future. The Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, and Portland Trail Blazers have emerged as potential landing spots should Milwaukee consider a blockbuster trade.

Antetokounmpo could plan to utilize his leverage in trade talks with the Bucks to steer himself toward his top destination. Antetokounmpo holds a player option, so he’s essentially on an expiring contract and can tell other interested teams he will leave in 2027 free agency. He averaged 27.6 points per game on 62.4 FG%, 9.8 rebounds per game, 5.4 assists per game, 0.9 steals per game, and 0.7 blocks per game during the regular season.

Why Giannis Antetokounmpo To Miami Makes Perfect Sense

The Heat appear as one of the most logical contenders for Antetokounmpo. Miami has been linked to him for years. Pat Riley has always chased superstars, and the franchise could try to put together a package around young players, transferable contracts, and several draft picks. A hypothetical trade package could involve dealing Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, the Heat’s 13th draft pick, and two first-round picks.

Bam Adebayo might be the only untouchable player for Miami in Antetokounmpo trade talks. Going to the Heat makes perfect sense for Antetokounmpo for several reasons. He would get to play with Adebayo, who is only 29 years old; there is no state income tax, and Antetokounmpo would stay in the wide-open Eastern Conference.

How Giannis Antetokounmpo Could Form A Boston Dynasty With Jayson Tatum

Antetokounmpo could be interested in joining the Celtics due to the team’s strong roster depth and the possibility of competing for the title. Boston’s roster is deeper and more dynamic than Miami’s and could thus remain more competitive after a blockbuster deal. A trade would most likely involve Jaylen Brown in a multi-team framework.

The Celtics could form a dynasty with Antetokounmpo and Jayson Tatum, as they would be contenders for the next four to six years with them as top-five players in the league. Boston’s front office is no stranger to making unexpected, league-shattering trades. The Celtics have dealt for Kristaps Porzingis, Anfernee Simons, and Derrick White in recent years. Such strategic acquisitions have allowed them to remain competitive and perennial title contenders.

How The Damian Lillard Trade Could Secretly Gift The Blazers Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Trail Blazers might show interest in trading for Antetokounmpo and could reunite him with Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday. Antetokounmpo won a championship in Milwaukee with Holiday, and a deal would form a big three of Antetokounmpo, Holiday, and Lillard.

Portland holds unique leverage in the negotiations, as it holds the Bucks’ 2028, 2029, and 2030 draft picks from the Lillard trade. Milwaukee may be interested in regaining its picks if the Bucks look to tank without Antetokounmpo.

A proposed trade package that the Trail Blazers could offer Milwaukee for Antetokounmpo would include Scoot Henderson, Jerami Grant, Yang Hansen, and multiple first-round picks. Portland’s potential starting lineup would be Lillard, Shaedon Sharpe, Deni Avdija, Antetokounmpo, and Donovan Clingan.

Many expect that the NBA Draft will be the potential date for an Antetokounmpo trade, or shortly before it. The Bucks should wait for the NBA Finals to end to see if the New York Knicks or San Antonio Spurs will enter this race.

The equation is as simple as it is brutal: for Milwaukee to hand over Antetokounmpo, the Heat, Celtics, and Trail Blazers will have to sacrifice something that hurts. He wields the kind of influence that upends entire conferences, but no trade comes with a warranty.
