Harper has firmly established himself as a top-tier prospect with the potential to transform a franchise. The talented Rutgers guard showcases size, playmaking, and scoring ability that every head coach envies. He is the ideal building block for teams seeking a new direction. While many analysts and predictors predict Harper to be drafted by the Spurs, that is not the perfect fit.
If San Antonio were to add Rutgers’ star, they would create a logjam in their backcourt. Currently, the Spurs have De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle signed to long-term contracts and view them as their future backcourt combination. Dylan Harper’s talent is not one that should come off the bench, and San Antonio can use this high draft pick as leverage to land the final piece to contend in the West. Dylan Harper joining the Brooklyn Nets would be a dream scenario for both him and the franchise. Harper was born and raised on New Jersey, he has deep roots in the area symbolized by his collegiate tenure at Rutgers. The Nets are searching for a strong ball handler and scorer to anchor their rebuild, and Harper’s advanced feel for the game, size, and playmaking would be a perfect fit. The Nets fan base would be able to get behind him easily a she would bring excitement and market marketability.
He would help establish a new identity and culture that Brooklyn has lacked since the early 2000s. Brooklyn would have to move up in the draft to land him, but it would heavily benefit their franchise.
If the Milwaukee Bucks were to make a blockbuster trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Spurs, they could find themselves with the No. 2 pick and in a prime position to draft Harper. In this hypothetical trade-up, Harper becomes the centerpiece of a franchise reset. His ability to run the offense, score efficiently, and defend multiple positions would give Milwaukee a guard to build around.
Giannis’ value is predicted to peak and only lower, so if the Bucks want to maximize his value, the smartest thing would be to trade him this offseason. Dylan Harper’s skill set and basketball IQ make him a fit for multiple franchises in need of a guard like him. Whether it’s become the hometown star in his hometown, a new hope in Milwaukee, or the leader of Utah’s young core, Harper has the tools and versatility to do such. He is a great talent, and one that is not often found. His fit would be better in San Antonio if the Spurs hadn’t traded for De’Aaron Fox last season.
