WWE Backlash St. Louis is this Saturday at the Enterprise Center. This PLE contained numerous championship and faction storylines. The predictions are out, and the list of questions is answered below.
It doesn’t get much bigger than two future Hall of Famers battling for the company’s most historic championship. These two men will put on an old-school wrestling clinic, and the company will try to protect both of its biggest names ever. With zero chance of a title change, they will find a way to make ‘The Viper’ look strong in a loss.
After The Rock‘s unexpected absence at WrestleMania, their faction will logically play a more prominent role at Backlash. Perhaps a new member is announced, or the Samoan makes up for his absence, which was not well received.
At the expense of the women’s tag division gaining credibility, WWE booked these competitors to become champions together, only to lose the belts immediately due to Becky‘s heel turn. Valkyria is the superior in-ring talent, but Lynch is more well-known. This match will be entertaining, but the new heel has lost a step. Considering her step was never quick, this is not a talent issue for the current champ.
What Lynch does is elevate this new title. The champion has done well, making it more of a fighting title than its United States counterpart, but ‘The Man’ is taking this new title on a heel run. The process will also make the following champion look stronger, having it dropped from a greater height.
This booking has divided the WWE Universe. Some enjoy McAfee and call this a fun match, while others claim Gunther‘s reputation is tainted. After two dominant title runs, they booked the Austrian to tap to his signature hold against Jey Uso at WrestleMania. McAfee has shown potential, and his athleticism keeps him from embarrassment. The commentator will execute entertaining high spots, but Gunther will smack him around until his chest bleeds. Fans can expect Gunther to be victorious.
Fatu got over much sooner than expected, and deservingly so. His style on the mic and in the ring is a violent, unique addition to the roster. All four men are tough, but McIntyre and Fatu take it to another level. This is the perfect list of names to legitimize his title run, so expect Fatu to retain in a stiff one.
Penta is off to a hot start in WWE, and Mysterio has improved drastically over the years. Tensions are mounting between Dominik and fellow Judgment Day member Finn Balor. The match may have the quickest pace and best high spots of the evening. The finish will launch a singles storyline between the current allies and disband the faction. With Balor’s involvement, expect Penta to be the new Intercontinental Champion.
End Of My WWE Backlash Rant
The results seem predictable outside of the finish to Cena vs. Orton. It will be interesting to see what’s next in his retirement tour. With a couple of title swaps and violent matches predicted, Backlash is destined to entertain. After the ridiculous finish at WrestleMania, fans will understandably start a riot online if something interesting doesn’t cap the Undisputed Championship match.
