A sneaky AFC matchup entering Week 2 that isn’t getting a lot of recognition is the Jacksonville Jaguars traveling to Denver to take on the Broncos at Mile High.

Jacksonville is coming off a 34-10 win over the Cleveland Browns, while the Broncos are reeling from an ugly 31-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Denver is favored by 2.5 points, even though Jacksonville was the only team in the regular season to defeat the Broncos at home last season.

Both teams won 13-plus games last season and are expected to be among the AFC’s elite teams.

Here are four Jaguars players to watch in Week 2:

Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence was outstanding in Jacksonville’s season opener against the Cleveland Browns. He had the highest QB rating of any quarterback in Week 1 (150.63), completing 18 of 23 passes for 245 yards and four touchdowns.

In Jacksonville’s last nine regular-season games, under head coach Liam Coen, the Jaguars are undefeated. During that stretch, Lawrence has posted an NFL-best 111.5 passer rating and  28 total touchdowns, while Jacksonville averages 33.7 points per game, leading the league.

Entering Week 2, Lawrence and the Jaguars will return to Mile High Stadium with plenty of confidence. Last season, Jacksonville was the only team to defeat Denver at home in the regular season and snapped the Broncos’ 11-game win streak. Jacksonville’s offense totaled 346 yards and scored 34 points. Lawrence completed 23 of 36 passes for 279 yards and four total touchdowns.

Parker Washington

After not agreeing to a contract extension before the season opener, Parker Washington is raising the price for Jacksonville. He led the Jaguars in Week 1 with six targets, five receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown.

A former 2023 sixth-round pick out of Penn State, Washington led Jacksonville in receiving last season, recording 847 yards on 58 receptions with five touchdowns—all career highs. Across five games, he has posted 31 receptions on 47 targets for 537 yards and four receiving touchdowns.

Washington’s breakout performance came in Denver last season. Washington lit up Denver’s No. 7-ranked pass defense, hauling in six receptions for 145 yards and a touchdown. The Broncos enter this week as the No. 10-ranked pass defense, allowing just 172 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Anton Harrison

Making his first NFL start at left tackle in Week 1, Anton Harrison solidified Trevor Lawrence’s blindside. He allowed just one pressure and held two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Verse to four total tackles and no sacks.

Drafted out of Oklahoma as a left tackle, Harrison has been a steady constant for Jacksonville’s offensive line, spending his first three years in the NFL at right tackle. Harrison said the move back to left tackle “felt like home.”

Jacksonville picked up Harrison’s fifth-year option this offseason, and he is in place for a huge contract extension. This week, he will face a Broncos pass rush that recorded 68 sacks last season, four short of the NFL record, led by defensive end Nik Bonitto, who had 14.

Ventrell Miller

Uncertainty surrounded the Jaguars’ linebacker corps outside of Foyesade Oluokun this season. Jacksonville lost former first-round pick and Pro Bowler Devin Lloyd to free agency, where he had a career year under defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.

The Jaguars felt confident heading into the season that Ventrell Miller would slide in and wouldn’t miss a beat of Lloyd’s production. So far, their gamble is paying off. Miller had the highest coverage grade of any Jaguars linebacker (92.1), according to Pro Football Focus, and the highest PFF score of any Jaguars player (94.5) in Week 1.

Miller recorded 10 total tackles, one sack, two tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, and a forced fumble. The question for Jacksonville and its fans is whether he can maintain this production against a Broncos offense looking to avoid an 0-2 start.

If Jacksonville expects to win Sunday’s game, it has to win in the trenches. My eyes will be on left tackle Anton Harrison. Head coach Liam Coen was hired for his attitude and commitment to dominating the line of scrimmage.

In Denver’s opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, running back Kenneth Walker III ran for 173 yards and a touchdown as Kansas City totaled more than 200 yards rushing against the Broncos.

Last week, Jacksonville’s offensive line allowed 10 total pressures, three quarterback hits, one sack and six hurries. This week, the line will take on one of the NFL’s premier pass rushes.
