For the 2,301st time, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will face off in a regular season matchup. While the 2026 season is nascent, in addition to the fact that Boston has had a lethargic start to their campaign, all games in the greatest rivalry in sports matter. Don’t ever be fooled by the circumstances or standings.
This will be the first matchup between the Bronx Bombers and BoSox since their epic three-game, do-or-die Wild Card series back in October. Cam Schlittler – more on him momentarily – was the hero of that marathon, with his epic Game Three performance forever etching his name in Yankees lore. New York won that series, and, at least for the moment, exorcised some postseason demons against the Red Sox. It was New York’s first postseason series win against Boston since the 2003 ALCS.
The Bronx Is Burgeoning
After an 8-2 start, the Yankees endured a 2-7 lull that included a five-game losing streak and a sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays. It seems the ship has been righted, at least temporarily.
Major League Baseball’s most scorching hot bat belongs to Ben Rice, who has homered in four consecutive contests,. The Pinstripes pulverized the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium over the weekend, as they swept them in three games and outscored them, 24-6.
Cody Bellinger has an eight-game hitting streak, captain Aaron Judge has five home runs in his last seven games, and even Ryan McMahon finally did something with his bat – his biggest hit as a Yankee to this point.

Despite the absence of Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón, both of whom are coming back soon, the Yankees’ rotation has produced 2.98 ERA and 3.06 FIP, both ranking third-best in the big leagues right now.
Max Fried and Cam Schlittler have picked up right where they left off last season. Schlittler is also continuing to embrace the rivalry against Boston, although some comments by Red Sox fans have been vitriolic and downright appalling. Regardless of the incendiary rhetoric, Schlittler has been baseball’s premier flamethrower in 2026.
Ryan Weathers has been a superb trade acquisition for the Yankees thus far. His 11.44 strikeouts per nine innings is eighth-best in baseball, behind – you guessed it – teammate Cam Schlittler. Will Warren has posted a 2.49 ERA and fanned 11 batters in seven shutout innings in his most recent outing.
To top it all off for the first-place Yanks, Judge and Rice have combined for 17 homers, the most of any teammate duo this year. They’re also the third Yankees tandem to hit eight or more home runs each through the team’s first 22 games, joining Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle (1956), plus Judge and Anthony Rizzo (2022).
A prominent blemish for the American League’s top team, however, is their bullpen. After being virtually un-hittable through the first seven games, the stable of relievers has faltered precipitously. Since April 4th, the Yankees’ bullpen ranks 24th with a 5.33 ERA, due mostly to the shambolic performances of Camilo Doval, Ryan Yarbrough, and Jake Bird. Bird was sent down to Triple-A as a result.
At the end of the day, manager Aaron Boone’s squad finds itself 13-9 and at the top of the American League. But time has come for them to beat down on Boston. Going back to 2023, the Yanks are 15-24 against the Red Sox, and they’ve lost seven of their last 11 games at Fenway Park. Time to silence the boisterous Fenway Faithful.
Bedlam In Beantown
Not much has gone right for the Red Sox this year. Despite owning the sixth-highest payroll and spending $137 million during the off-season, Boston is 9-13 and in fourth place in the American League East. Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello have both been abysmal, and the lineup – outside of Wilson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu – has been stuck in neutral.
There has been some improvement, however. Since losing eight of their first ten games, manager Alex Cora has navigated the storm and guided his team to a 7-5 mark in their last 12 games. The reversal of fortunes includes series wins against the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals, both of whom have a winning record and are in a a contentious race in the National League Central.
Boston’s recent success against the Yankees is no secret, especially at home. But can Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Caleb Durbin start producing?

End Of My Yankees Rant
Aaron Judge and his team got the last laugh in the Wild Card series last year, but their 4-9 mark against Boston in the 2025 regular season costed them first place in the AL East. They have last 24 of their last 39 games against their historic nemesis.
It’s true that the BoSox have been playing much better, but they aren’t treading water just yet. The Yankees have a chance to not only prove they can win games at Fenway Park; they can also dig an even deeper hole for Boston.
Tuesday night will feature Luis Gíl going up against Connelly Early. Then the next two games will feature Max Fried countering Ranger Suarez and a grand finale between Cam Schlittler and Brayan Bello. Let the games begin.
