MFT Vs. Damian Priest & R-Truth: WWE World Tag Team Championship
The new WWE World Tag Team Champions, MFT (Talla and Tama Tonga), accompanied by Haku, defended against former champions R-Truth and Damian Priest. The match had a natural back-and-forth, but it came across as soft sports-entertaining. Even some of the near-falls were botched by the camera angle, showing the other man waiting ringside. Truth took a clean pin, as the champions showed off a new tandem finisher, the Red Cross. Things got more interesting when Priest teased a heel turn, but WWE isn’t pulling the trigger quite yet.
Blake Monroe Vs. Giulia
Monroe was scheduled to make her in-ring SmackDown debut in a singles match against “Beautiful Madness” Giulia. Monroe wasted no time, blindsiding her opponent during her entrance. Monroe was relentless, throwing her into the steel steps before rolling her into the ring. She hit her finisher before the match could even get started, and walked away demanding a title opportunity.
Trick Williams, Lil Yachty, Baron Corbin: WWE United States Championship
Trick Williams and Lil Yachty are currently involved in a storyline stemming from Williams losing the WWE United States Championship to Corbin. It was nice to see Corbin show up without the title, since WWE is removing the shag Williams had put on it.
Williams’ title-shot request was swiftly denied, leading to Yachty striking Corbin from behind with a kendo stick. The champ powdered and announced the match for WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event, but on one condition.
For Williams to get that opportunity, Yachty has to last five minutes in a ring with Corbin. The condition was hesitantly agreed to.
Tiffany Stratton Vs. Lash Legend
Tiffany Stratton and her ill-fitting clothes faced Lash Legend, with Nia Jax. Legend’s strength and physicality shined through, as she picked up the clean finish, but worked in some dirty business after the bell with Jax. Interim WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green came to her aid to end the segment.

Shinsuke Nakamura Debuts Kyoki
“The King of Strongstyle” Shinsuke Nakamura introduced the debut of Kyoki (better known as Hiromu Takahashi) to SmackDown television, teaming up for a rivalry with MFT. This video package should lead to an entertaining, fresh storyline for the tag-title picture.
CM Punk Vs. Kevin Owens: Undisputed WWE Championship
Following their heated face-to-face last week, it was time for the title match between Owens and Punk. Whether a work or a shoot, the emotions felt real as the challenger made his classic understated entrance. The Toronto crowd wasn’t as welcoming to the champion as they were to his Canadian opposition.

Owens controlled the pace early with methodical striking, laying it on thick against Punk. At one point, Owen hit a frog splash through the announcer’s desk, followed immediately by a Swanton in the ring, leading to the first believable false finish.
Punk had the next near-fall and transitioned it straight into another, via a submission hold. Owens reversed it into a Sharpshooter, and they battled back-and-forth from there, leading to the eventual finish.
CM Punk Vs. Kevin Owens: The Finish
Owens accidentally sent Punk into the referee, who subsequently wasn’t there to make the three count. The distraught challenger was calling for a new official when the champ hit a Go To Sleep, but faced the same official-less outcome. Sami Zayn then rushed Punk from the crowd, launching him into the ring post, before back into the ring. Zayn launched the ref in, leading to a near-fall that had Toronto on its feet.

Zayn launched the championship belt into the ring for Owens to use as a weapon, but the challenger didn’t want to win that way. Upon trying to return the belt to Punk, it was shockingly used as a weapon against Owens, a sort of punishment for not using it. One GTS later, Punk retained the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Zayn didn’t stop there; he’d also used the belt as a weapon on Punk before slamming Owens with another skull shot. The champ got his second taste as well, as his aggressor claimed his actions were justified for stealing the championship from him. Could this possibly lead to a triple-threat title match down the road?
