GG Banks is one of the most exciting future WNBA prospects in the country. The five-star combo guard from Wilmington, Delaware is currently one of the top players in the 2027 recruiting class, already collecting major college interest while still only 17 years old. But how did we get here in the first place? How did a girl who was already receiving college offers in the sixth grade become one of the biggest names in high school basketball?

Coach Dudley Keeps Her Grounded

Coach Tamika Dudley is one of the most important people in GG Banks’ development. Dudley first coached Banks at the club level and eventually became a major reason Banks transferred to The St. James Academy. Banks has said that Dudley holds her accountable, while Dudley describes Banks as one of the smartest point guards she has coached.

That relationship is important for someone who has been getting attention since middle school. Banks already has the followers, offers and five-star label, but Dudley keeps her focused on getting better instead of becoming comfortable with the hype. The St. James schedule also gives Banks something closer to a college environment, with frequent games, daily practices and lifting.

The AmeriCup Showed What She Can Become

Banks really showed off that potential during the 2026 FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup, helping Team USA win gold while averaging 13.8 points, 6.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game.

The numbers only tell part of the story. Banks showed off the flashy handle, change of pace and shot creation that made her such a highly rated prospect in the first place. More importantly, she has the ability to get downhill, collapse the defense and find teammates, showing why she projects as more than just a scorer.

The championship game might have been the best example. Banks finished with 14 points and nine assists as the United States beat Canada 90-72 for gold. But there are caveats.

Now Comes The Pressure

The bigger the stage gets, everyone starts asking the same question: can she actually make it?

Banks has been dealing with that pressure longer than most players her age. College programs were already interested when she was in sixth grade, she has tens of thousands of social-media followers and young girls now wait after games just to take pictures with her.

College basketball will be another level, and the WNBA would be another massive jump after that. Defenders will become bigger, faster and smarter, and the flashy handle will eventually have to translate against professionals who have seen almost every move before.

The talent, however, is clearly there.

The College Decision Could Decide Everything

One more caveat worth adding is the college decision, because that may be the biggest factor in determining whether all this potential actually translates.

Banks already has the talent to play at a high level, but the next step is choosing a program that will actually let her develop as a lead guard instead of just plugging her into a system. A school with strong guard development, good spacing and a coach willing to let her play through mistakes could be huge for her. The wrong fit could slow everything down.

End Of My GG Banks Rant

GG Banks has everything needed to eventually become a WNBA star, but the next few years will decide whether all that potential actually reaches that level.

The scoring is there. The playmaking is there. The confidence is definitely there.

Now it comes down to commitment to the game, staying humble and keeping people like Coach Dudley in her corner as the pressure continues getting bigger.
