The New York Mets have been swept by the Cleveland Guardians and have now lost four in a row. They are now sitting in the third wild card spot with a 63-52 record and are just three games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds. At this rate, they will miss the playoffs, and this will be a complete 180 compared to what they were doing in the first half.

The Mets Have Looked Lost As Of Late
On June 12th, the Mets were 45-24 and looked like they would cruise into the playoffs and be a World Series contender. They have looked the complete opposite as of late. Since that date, New York has a record of 18-28 and is now fighting to stay in the wild card. It has lost eight of its last nine games, and fans are calling for hitting coach Eric Chavez to be fired.
The Offense Is Abysmal
The Mets are hitting .239 as a team this season, which puts them at 23rd in the league. They are hitting just .232 with runners in scoring position, which puts them at 28th in the league, just above the Chicago White Sox and Seattle Mariners. In their last ten games, they are hitting .218 with runners in scoring position. Their offense has been awful, and it has been like this for almost the whole season.

The Mets Will Miss The Playoffs If They Don’t Make A Change
If New York doesn’t make a change, whether that be a coaching shift or calling up a prospect, it will miss the postseason this year. The Mets are trending downward, and it doesn’t look like there is any way for them to snap out of it. They need to spice things up and send a message to the team.
End Of My Mets Rant
It seems as if New York will end up falling out of that last wild-card spot. The Reds just took two out of three from the Cubs, while the Mets got swept by the Guardians. Cincinnati’s next series is a four-game set vs the Pirates, while New York will face the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers. Yes, baseball is a game of slumps and hot streaks; however, this team has been cold offensively for months now. It remains to be seen whether the Mets will fall out of the playoffs or be able to squeak in.
