The Netflix-backed MMA card has come and gone, pulling a record-breaking 17 million viewers at its peak. Next up is the historic White House event on Sunday, June 14th. The two events represent not just the biggest fight spectacles of 2026, but of all time. Even though the White House event will be unprecedented, I feel as though the Netflix card viewership numbers will ultimately reign supreme.
I think that the first thing worth discussing is the fact that Netflix offers accessibility that the White House’s South Lawn will be unable to match. Netflix is unquestionably one of the biggest, if not the biggest, entertainment platforms on the planet. There was no need for casual viewers to buy a paper view or subscribe to a new streaming service this past May 16th. Even if they happen to be one of the minority of people who don’t have Netflix, you know more than a couple of people who do, and that convenience matters.

The White House card, which has been branded UFC Freedom 250, will obviously be a historic event. There hasn’t been a sporting event at the White House since 2008, when George W. Bush was in office. Also, that was a T-Ball event for perspective. So it’s safe to say that this will be like nothing we have ever seen before. The card does carry some star power with names such as Ilia Topuria, Alex Pereira, and Sean O’Malley.
The Netflix card was put together with a larger fanbase in mind. Instead of pulling some of the best fighters, they drew on the nostalgia strings of fans with throwback marquee names such as Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano, Nate Diaz, Mike Perry, and Francis Ngannou. Most Valuable Promotions had a great strategy, and that was reflected in the previously mentioned numbers.
Even if you are someone who doesn’t follow combat sports, you probably know who Rousey is. Diaz is still one of the most popular fighters, and Ngannou became globally known through his boxing matches with Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. That familiarity from the casual audience is what drives those numbers and has an immense impact.
Of course, hardcore fans will have more interest in the White House card for the competition aspect. One thing that’s important to remember is how small the MMA audience still is. The spectacle and viral moments are another reason that Netflix did so well. The White House card’s matchmaking appears to fall in line with many of the recent UFC cards we have seen.
Another obvious factor that you cannot ignore is the divisiveness that surrounds the White House card itself. It’s a fair reaction to have feelings about the White House holding an MMA event. Some fans view the event as patriotic, and others consider it a clown show. That type of division will undoubtedly affect casual viewership. I’m not a fan of using sports as a platform to promote politics, and I know there are many fans who probably feel the same.

The White House card will also face many logistical concerns. With the event taking place outdoors on the South Lawn, heat and bugs have been discussed as possible issues. Netflix’s card took place in the Intuit Dome, in Inglewood, California. I was present at the event with my wife, and it is quite the futuristic venue. Rousey stated that the two-billion-dollar arena was “sparkling” and really enjoyed getting to fight there.
Another factor that’s not being talked about enough is the promotional approach by both the MVP crew and the UFC. Jake Paul and company did a great job of dropping announcements little by little. Slowly, they dropped names of those who would be fighting. This gave them lots of opportunities to gain headlines and keep the attention on them. They also dropped a documentary leading up to the fight and held multiple press conferences. They kept the people talking.
The UFC, on the other hand, has clearly started resting on its laurels. The days of mega-press conferences, jaw-dropping trailers, and building stars seem to be a distant memory. During the broadcast of UFC 326, the entire White House card was casually dropped after much anticipation. The immediate reaction was not good, as this card was vocalized as the “biggest event in history.”

End Of Why The Netflix Card Will Outdraw The White House Card
With all that being said, I’m not expressing that the White House card will not draw a large audience. This wouldn’t be a discussion if that were the case. As a fan since 2003, I could not have imagined that the small sport of Mixed Martial Arts would be taking place on the White House lawn. It’s going to be historic, and the event still showcases elite fighter talent.
In the end, the Netflix card had accessibility. They had more recognizable names and less political baggage. Netflix did a great job of betting on nostalgia as its driving force. With the wider global streaming reach, they garnered mainstream attention. The White House card might prove to be the better MMA event in terms of fighting, but MVP and Netflix have proven to be a match made in heaven.
