Pebble Beach is regarded as one of the top golf courses in America. It is consistently ranked as such by golfing publications thanks to a variety of factors. Here are a few reasons why Pebble Beach is such a great golf course.
Overall, the location and landscape of the course is perhaps what makes the beach one of the finest golf courses. Pebble Beach is located in California, on the Monterey coastline alongside the Pacific Ocean. So, the course has a great setting.
The course itself has a history, dating back to 1919. It was thanks to the designers, Neville and Grant, that the course really emerged as one of America’s top golf courses. One of Neville’s main objectives in the design was to place as many golf holes as possible alongside the rocky Monterey coastline. So, in this respect, many of Pebble Beach’s finest holes run alongside the Pacific Ocean.
The Pebble Beach golf course has some fantastic signature holes among its 18 holes. The 7th hole is a good example of one of the course’s coastal holes, and is perhaps one of the best-known par 3 golf holes. This hole is a short par 3, a little over 100 yards in distance. That green rests close to the Pacific Ocean.
Another great hole on the Pebble Beach golf course is the long par-4 8th hole. On this hole, the ocean runs alongside much of the right side of the hole. The hole also makes use of elevated landing spots and has a great approach shot to the green.
Overall, the golf course is one that some of the best players of the PGA Tour play on. The Pebble Beach course has a great history of golf championships, having staged six great US Opens. Here, the likes of Woods and Nicklaus made history by setting golfing records. In addition to this, the golf course has also staged the PGA Championship in 1977.
The golf course has also had some recent enhancements and renovations. With input from the likes of Arnold Palmer, the golf course has modified a number of its holes by adding new bunkers and adding some extra length to holes.
So, Pebble Beach is regarded as one of the finest golf courses in the USA today. This is thanks to its unique landscape and geography, great coastal holes such as the 7th and 8th holes, and great history that has seen many of golf’s great players win at the US Open at Pebble Beach.
