Drew McIntyre is about to fight at the very first two-night Summerslam in WWE history. He will be teaming with Logan Paul to fight Randy Orton and Jellyroll in a tag team match. While it’s great to see him on a show like Summerslam, he should not be involved in a celebrity match. What Drew should be doing is getting another World Title run.
His recent heel character is some of the best work he’s done in WWE. Between his feuds with CM Punk and the trilogy of matches they had, or his feud with Damian Priest, Drew should be in the main event picture right now. Considering all the great matches, segments, and promo work he has been doing, it’s a shame that the WWE can’t seem to keep him in the main event scene.
Drew hasn’t held the WWE Title in five years. His last reign was in November of 2020, where he held the title for 97 days before losing it to The Miz. Heck, his only two WWE title reigns were both in 2020, which is insane. His other World Title reign with the World Heavyweight Title lasted just a few minutes before Damian Priest cashed in on him at WrestleMania XL. The fact that WWE is wasting his prime years right now, having him team with celebrities, is ridiculous.
It doesn’t matter if it’s the World Heavyweight Title or the WWE Title, he should be in the picture for one of the two. Now this doesn’t mean he should get it right away, of course. Even if it’s a slow buildup to him winning another title, as long as it keeps McIntyre in the title picture for good. With no one knowing if Drew may retire soon or not, it would only make sense if WWE gives him one last real run with a World Title.
After this tag match at Summerslam, it remains to be seen what WWE will have Drew McIntyre do in the foreseeable future. Will they have him continue his feud with Randy Orton? Or will they have him get back to being a top contender for a World Title? As we are not the writers for WWE, we won’t know until it happens. As WWE fans, we will just have to wait and see what plans are in Drew McIntyre’s future.
