While quarterback Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills won his first NFL MVP Award this past year, quarterback Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens has won the coveted award in 2019 and 2023.
It is up for grabs again this coming season, so which quarterback will rise up to the occasion to grab another MVP trophy to add to their display case?
Last year, Allen squeaked out Jackson for the NFL MVP award in one of the tightest races ever. The Bills’ dominant signal caller received 27 of 50 first-place votes while Jackson received the last 23.
When the dust settled and the voters spoke, they chose Allen over Jackson, 383 points to 362 for the Ravens’ superstar.
Allen has a case to win the NFL MVP award over Jackson because he continued to be elite with only one returning receiver in the Bills’ receiving core. The Bills went an astounding 13-4 without a true No. 1 receiver.
The 29-year-old also played in 100 fewer snaps than Jackson but still became the only quarterback in NFL history to complete 40+ touchdowns in five straight seasons.
Allen will use his powerful arm to connect with third-year receiver Khalil Shakir and second-year receiver Keon Coleman to continue to win season-long games.
As for Jackson, he put up more showstopping stats while playing in 100 more snaps than Allen did on his way to his first NFL MVP award last season.
It also didn’t hurt that the 28-year-old had an all-pro running back in Derrick Henry, who took the pressure off of him and assisted him in every game for the Ravens that year.
On top of that, Jackson was possibly one Mark Andrews two-point conversion catch away from tying the game and potentially knocking off Allen and the Bills in overtime of the AFC Divisional Playoff Round.
Don’t underestimate the dual-threat quarterback, as he will juke out defenders by scrambling with the ball to take it to the house for six points this season.
It’s no surprise that Allen and Jackson are tied for the 2025 NFL MVP Honors at +550, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
Following the two Kingpins is Prince Joe Burrow, the superstar quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals. Burrow registers at +650 (13-2) to take his first MVP award.
Next is Kansas City Chiefs’ clever Patrick Mahomes, who, just like Jackson, is a two-time MVP winner. The only thing Mahomes has that should make him higher in the betting odds is that he’s a three-time Super Bowl winner.
This award is based on stats, however, which is why his pedestrian play last year puts him at +700 (7-1) to win.
Allen and Jackson will start us off in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football, kicking off the last season at the current HighMark Stadium.
The Bills and Allen are penciled in to take on the three heavy hitters sometime during the regular season.
After finishing against the Ravens, the Bills will host Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on November 2 in another playoff rematch at 4:25 pm. Then they will face the Burrow-led Bengals on December 7, also at 4:25 pm.
The Bills will then take on Sir Jalen Hurts and the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the “Tush Push Bowl” on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 4:25 pm.
All of these elite quarterback matchups should live up to the hype, with only 100 days away from that exciting Sunday Night Week 1 matchup.
All these signal callers are talented enough to win it. Still, it couldn’t be clearer that the two front-runners are last year’s MVP winner, Josh Allen, who is looking to win a second straight MVP this season, and last year’s runner-up, Lamar Jackson, who is looking to win a third MVP and take it right back from Allen.
