Everyone knows that the Washington Wizards have been the laughingstock of the NBA for the past few seasons, but next year could change all of that. They no longer have just a bunch of young guys that they throw onto the court, hoping for the best. Washington has made major improvements to their roster over this 2025-26 season, and they did so at a discounted price, to say the least. It’s hard to say where this team could end up in the Eastern Conference next year, but Wizards fans should definitely have something to look forward to. The young talent is there with guys like Sarr, Bilal, Tre, and Kyshawn. All they needed was some veteran experience, and they got that.
What Moves Did The Wizards Make To Get To This Point?
Washington has made two huge moves at the 2026 trade deadline that were pretty bizarre in most people’s eyes. But if everything falls in place, it could be some of the best acquisitions in the franchise’s history. They got two superstars in Trae Young and Anthony Davis for basically pennies on the dollar. Say what you want about these two players, but if they’re both healthy, that is one of the best guard-big man tandems in the league. Just imagine trying to guard a Trae Young and AD pick-and-roll. Not to mention, Washington could add another star player on top of all of this.

With Washington having one of the worst records in the league, they are expected to have a top pick in this loaded 2026 NBA draft. Let’s say they get a top three pick and are able to select AJ Dybantsa. Being able to learn behind the likes of Trae Young and AD would be great for his development, and working alongside players of their caliber could take a lot of pressure off of him.
You can’t expect great things from a rookie, but Dybantsa seems like he will be a great ball player the moment he’s able to step on an NBA floor. If a starting lineup of Trae Young, Tre Johnson, AJ Dybantsa, Anthony Davis, and Alex Sarr doesn’t get you excited to watch, then I don’t know what will.
End Of Wizards Rant
A lot of things have to go in the Wizards’ favor for them to become contenders, but it’s not crazy to believe something like this could actually happen. Washington does have a lot to look forward to this next season, and it could be their first winning season in years. This team does look great on paper, but we’ve seen plenty of that in the past, and it didn’t end up working out. So, we’ll just have to see what they can do.
