Many people doubted a UFC event on the White House lawn could ever happen. On Sunday night, Dana White proved them wrong as UFC Freedom 250 delivered one of the most unique cards in combat sports history. The Washington Monument illuminated the background, creating a visual unlike anything ever produced. The UFC put on a beautiful event to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
Nobody knew what a UFC card on the White House lawn would look like, but it was a breathtaking production. The views from the nation’s capital were incredible. The fights didn’t have the arena atmosphere that they usually do, but it was a small crowd that got to see amazing fights in an intimate venue. Despite not feeling like a normal UFC event, it was a once in a lifetime card that was incredible to watch.
Live music was provided for the fighters’ walk outs from the White House as they were greeted by the small crowd and beautiful views from Washington D.C. Say what you want about United States President Donald Trump, but when he does something, he does it big. He didn’t disappoint for UFC Freedom 250. With White’s help, they put on a fantastic show, and the fighters put on an even better one. All seven fights were great.

After Trump and White walked out together, it was showtime. A short weather delay occurred at the beginning, but the weather held off for the night. Diego Lopes got the party started by knocking out Steve Garcia. Lopes has now had the pleasure of fighting at UFC 300, The Sphere, and the White House. He’s living life, and he’s super exciting to watch. After that, Bo Nickal won the battle of Pennsylvania on Pennsylvania Avenue by knocking out Kyle Daukaus in the first round.
Michael Chandler got knocked out by Maurcio Ruffy in the first round in embarrassing fashion. That could be it for Chandler, as he’s in a massive slump after the fight with Conor McGregor fell through. Josh Hokit followed that up by dominating UFC legend Derrick Lewis with a second round knockout followed by a wild post fight interview. Sean O’Malley did exactly what he promised, knocking out Canadian fighter Aiemann Zahabi and delivering a salute to the crowd. It’s been a rough year for Canada when it comes to facing the United States of America.
The last two fights is where stuff got interesting. In a shocking turn of events, Cyril Gane knocked out Alex Pereira in the second round. Nobody saw that coming, especially Pereira. Poatan isn’t built for a heavyweight. Justin Gaethje, then, capped off the night with the biggest upset in UFC history. After a four-round onslaught from Gaethje, Ilia Topuria’s corner called the fight, giving Gaethje the undisputed belt that has been eluding him. Nobody gave him a chance, but Gaethje shocked the world on the biggest stage and made America proud by doing the unthinkable.
Watching UFC Freedom 250 at the White House was an experience like no other. Imagine hating one of the coolest sporting events ever. Regardless of your political views, it should be easy to admit that this UFC card was incredible. No fights made it to a decision. Seven fights, seven finishes. It’s hard to ask for more than that out of a UFC card. UFC Freedom 250 wasn’t just another pay-per-view event. It was a reminder that the UFC continues to find ways to create moments fans never thought were possible. Whether another White House event ever happens or not, this card will be remembered forever.
