The Kansas City Chiefs are considering trading for Trevon Diggs to help strengthen their cornerback position. Help the Chiefs desperately need after the momentous 2024 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs have been making many trades this offseason to bolster their cornerback position, signing former Los Angeles Charger Kristian Fulton and drafting Nohl Williams.
The Chiefs may not be done yet, as it’s rumored the Dallas Cowboys are cutting ties with two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs. If this is true, the Chiefs are a likely landing place, along with the Detroit Lions; either way, this trade would cost a pretty penny.
Diggs was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 51st overall. Diggs had a productive first season despite missing four games due to a broken foot, with 42 solo tackles, 14 passes defended, three interceptions, one forced fumble, and one sack.
Diggs may be up for grabs despite the Cowboys signing him to a five-year $97 million deal in 2023, as he has been sidelined by injuries. In 2023, Diggs missed the entire season due to a torn ACL and was benched again after 11 games in 2024 with another knee injury.
The Cowboys may be looking to free up some capital with a trade, as the team signed Shavon Revel Jr., one of the highest-rated cornerbacks in the 2025 draft. The Cowboys are also on the verge of signing a huge contract with linebacker Micah Parsons. This might mean Diggs’ impressive price tag might be too much for the Cowboys now.
Diggs is, without a doubt, a valuable player. It’s his injury history and impressive contract with the Cowboys that could make a potential trade tricky—and expensive—for any receiving team.
A trade could take many forms. It could involve draft picks (likely a second- or fourth-round pick), financial compensation, or a combination of both. The trade ultimately depends on what kind of capital the Cowboys hope to gain.
Keep in mind—the Chiefs don’t have unlimited funds to acquire players. Due to major contracts for Mahomes, Kelce, Jones, and more, the Chiefs are tight on cap space. This means the Chiefs will need to be strategic to get all their needs met for the start of the 2025 season, which likely rules out any splashy or major player signings.
Right now, everything is speculation and highly unlikely. Due to the structure of his contract and the fact that Diggs has missed 21 games in the last two years, it doesn’t make sense for anyone to trade for such an expensive player. This doesn’t mean things can’t happen in the future when Diggs is healthy, but for right now, it’s just the rumor mill at work again.
