A few days ago, the Titans announced they were parting ways with Ran Carthon. Carthon was the general manager for the past two seasons and even got promoted to Executive Vice President last year. It was a stunning decision for the Titans to let him go, resulting in many questions in the short and long term. My biggest question I am asking is simple, Why is Brian Callahan still here?

Callahan’s First Years As Titans Head Coach

Titans

In his first year as the head coach of the Titans, Callahan’s coaching was awful. Not only did the Titans end with a 3-14 record, but they also secured the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. A big reason why is Callahan’s coaching.

Remember when many put the offensive guru label on Callahan with his work at the Cincinnati Bengals? With what was seen, the only guru here was of offensive ineptitude. The Titans offense was ranked 26th in the NFL. It would have been lower if Tony Pollard hadn’t had over 1,000 rushing yards.

By the way, I’m sick of the fans and analysts claiming he had nothing to work with this season. That is false, as Callahan has Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley on the roster. Heck, Callahan even had DeAndre Hopkins on the roster as well and failed to use him properly.

Yes, Will Levis and Mason Rudolph aren’t good, but the coach has to take the blame here for mismanaging the QB position. Callahan is way over his head as the head coach. His bizarre play calling and adjustments in the game don’t paint him well, either. Along with the team quitting on him mid-season, I don’t see Callahan as the head coach the team needs to succeed.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next For Tennessee

Callahan is a dead man walking because a new GM is coming in, and they will likely want to hire their guy. It will impact the rookie quarterback this team will take in the 2025 NFL Draft. I do not doubt that Tennessee will use the 1st pick at a QB. Callahan was bad as the coach this year. If that continues next year and he gets fired, that will impact the development of a quarterback who will have to relearn a new system in year two.

I am just so confused about what the Titans are doing now. I’ve been saying that since they traded WR AJ Brown to Philadelphia. That was the moment when the Titans jumped the shark and never recovered. By the way, that pick in the AJ Brown deal turned into Treylon Burks. I like Treylon Burks as a prospect, but it’s clear that Burks is a draft bust.

The dude can barely stay healthy, and even when he does, Burks stinks. The Titans better know what they are doing, especially in keeping Brian Callahan, because it doesn’t make any sense, in my opinion. I have been proven wrong before, but hopefully, the Titans will do that next season.
