Don’t let local radio hosts fool you. The Steelers made the right decision to pay T.J. Watt. Any doofus that says otherwise doesn’t know their ass from a hole in the ground. Watt is the heartbeat of the Pittsburgh Steelers. They go as he does. Pittsburgh is the only team in the NFL that could get clowned for paying a top-three defensive player in the league. Without the presence of Watt, the defense is lost.
The Resume Speaks For Itself
Since he entered the league in 2017, Watt is the NFL leader in sacks, QB hits, tackles for loss, and forced fumbles. He has one Defensive Player of the Year award to his name, but he deserves to have three. Watt got robbed by Aaron Donald in 2020 and Myles Garrett’s Make-A-Wish in 2023. The Steel City star has posted double-digit sacks in every season besides his rookie year and 2022, when he played ten games. Don’t let the haters fool you, Watt is that guy. Quarterbacks and offensive tackles check their closets for him before they go to bed.
To put T.J. Watt's dominance since entering the NFL into perspective…

Well-deserved money.
Watt turns 31 in October, but people are acting like he is 40. He has plenty of good football in front of him. Last time he signed a big deal, he tied the single-season sack record and won Defensive Player of the Year. If people thought that Pittsburgh made all those moves this offseason just to trade Watt, they need to get their heads checked. It was never on the table.
Final Touch On the Steelers’ Offseason
After getting shipped to Dallas, George Pickens called the Steelers “the cheapest organization”. Go skip out on another kid’s camp, George. This offseason, Pittsburgh has dished out franchise record contracts to DK Metcalf and Watt. They acquired the large contract of Jalen Ramsey. Pittsburgh will pay players who aren’t adult babies. Pickens can stay salty. This team will be better than anything he was a part of in Pittsburgh. The Steel City wants volunteers, not hostages.

Pittsburgh made life hard for the Cowboys and Bengals by locking up Watt. Dallas has to back up the Brinks truck for Micah Parsons. He deserves every penny, but Jerry Jones dragged his feet, and now he has to eat his crow. The Bengals were already struggling to reach a deal with Trey Hendrickson, and the price of a contract just went up. Good luck with that, Cincinnati. Don’t check that defensive depth chart.
End Of Steelers Rant

Pittsburgh needs Watt if they want any chance of being successful. They are 1-11 when he doesn’t play. Teryl Austin needs to do a better job of putting Watt in positions to disrupt games. Move him around the line. Unfortunately, asking Austin to be a good defensive coordinator is a big ask. Watt will likely have to win on pure talent. Luckily, he’s gifted enough to do that. Run from it, hide from it, it doesn’t matter. Trent Jordan Watt is a Steeler for life.
