The 2025 college football season has been nothing short of chaotic so far. With just two weeks left in the regular season, the drama is expected to intensify. The postseason will bring even more chaos, all leading to a champion being crowned in Miami, Florida, on Jan. 19th.

1. Ohio State (10-0)

The Ohio State Buckeyes have steamrolled through the 2025 season, leaving little doubt they belong at the top.

The Buckeyes’ defense allows just 7.5 points and 212.6 yards per game, ranking first in the nation in both categories. On the other side of the ball, quarterback Julian Sayin has led a clinical offense that’s averaging 37.5 points per game. With arguably the best skill position group in the country, Ohio State is firing on all cylinders.

Ohio State closes out its regular season with games against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Week 13 and the Michigan Wolverines in Week 14.

2. Indiana (11-0)

college football
The Hoosiers celebrate after the Indiana versus Wisconsin football game at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025.

The Indiana Hoosiers’ turnaround under head coach Curt Cignetti has been nothing short of spectacular. After going 11-2 and making the College Football Playoff in his first season, the Hoosiers have carried that momentum into 2025, starting the year 11-0.

Quarterback Fernando Mendoza has guided Indiana to a string of blowout victories and impressive wins. The most notable came on the road against the Oregon Ducks on Oct. 11.

Many still question the Hoosiers’ legitimacy, as last season they struggled against top opponents. They also came close to an upset loss against unranked Penn State in Week 11, needing a near miracle to pull off the win on the road. Indiana will likely have a chance to silence critics, though, in a potential matchup with No. 1 Ohio State on Dec. 6th in the Big Ten Championship.

The Hoosiers will be idle in Week 13, before finishing out the season on the road in a rivalry matchup with the Purdue Boilermakers.

3. Texas A&M (10-0)

The Texas A&M Aggies pulled off a stunning escape at home last Saturday against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Quarterback Marcel Reed led the team out of a 30-3 deficit, completing the largest comeback in A&M history. Since 2004, no SEC team had ever won when trailing by 27 points or more, going 0-286.

The Aggies notched one of the biggest wins of the 2025 season, defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on the road on Sept. 13. Texas A&M has shown inconsistency this season, though. They have narrowly escaped three of the SEC’s bottom-feeders: the Auburn Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Aggies close out the regular season with a matchup against the Samford Bulldogs in Week 13 and the Texas Longhorns in Week 14.

4. Georgia (9-1)

The Georgia Bulldogs dominated at home last Saturday, securing a top-10 win over Texas. While they have battled inconsistency all season, it seems the Bulldogs have finally hit their stride over the last two weeks.

Under head coach Kirby Smart, the Bulldogs are always in contention, and 2025 is no exception. Despite a loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide earlier in the season, Georgia has responded strongly.

The Bulldogs wrap up the season with a home game against the Charlotte 49ers, followed by a neutral-site rivalry showdown with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

5. Texas Tech (10-1)

In 2025, the Texas Tech Red Raiders surged up the leaderboard in total NIL spending, helping position themselves as a top-five team and a potential College Football Playoff berth.

The Red Raiders boast key wins on the road against the Utah Utes and at home against the BYU Cougars. Barring a blowout in the Big 12 Championship, Texas Tech is all but guaranteed a spot in the playoff.

Texas Tech is idle in Week 13 before traveling to Morgantown for a Week 14 matchup against the West Virginia Mountaineers.

6. Ole Miss (10-1)

Despite rumors that head coach Lane Kiffin might leave for the LSU Tigers or Florida Gators job openings, the Ole Miss Rebels are positioned for a College Football Playoff berth.

Since switching to quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, the Ole Miss offense has been firing on all cylinders. Their road victory against the Oklahoma Sooners in Week 9 looks even more impressive with each passing week.

The Rebels will be idle in Week 13, before going on the road to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Week 14.

7. Oregon (9-1)

The Oregon Ducks have taken care of business through 12 weeks of the 2025 season. Since a home loss to Indiana earlier in the year, the Ducks have rattled off four straight wins.

While Oregon is currently safe in the playoff picture, the Ducks face one of the toughest finishes in the country. They host the USC Trojans in Week 13 before traveling to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies in Week 14.

A slip in either game could move Oregon from safe to the bubble. Two wins would secure a playoff spot and a first-round home game, while two losses would eliminate them.

8. Oklahoma (8-2)

The Oklahoma Sooners have risen from the dead, as just three weeks ago, their playoff hopes looked slim. Road wins over the Tennessee Volunteers and Alabama Crimson Tide have propelled them back into position to potentially host a first-round game.

Oklahoma boasts some of the best wins in the country, but it must win out to remain in the playoff picture.

The Sooners will play both of their remaining games at home, facing the Missouri Tigers in Week 13 and finishing the regular season against LSU in Week 14.

9. Notre Dame (8-2)

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, center, celebrates with his players after winning a NCAA football game 49-10 against Navy at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, in South Bend.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish started the season 0-2 after three weeks, but have won eight straight games to return to the playoff picture.

Last year’s national championship runners-up are likely to make the playoff with two wins in their remaining games, short of several bid-stealers.

Notre Dame will finish out its 2025 home campaign against the Syracuse Orange in Week 13. They will then travel to Palo Alto to face the Stanford Cardinal in Week 14.

10. Alabama (8-2)

Alabama has some of the best wins in the country, but has not taken care of enough business to move higher in the rankings.

After a home loss to Oklahoma and an earlier defeat to the Florida State Seminoles, Alabama sits squarely on the playoff bubble. The Crimson Tide is still in the hunt for an SEC Championship spot. Even with a loss in that game, they would likely make the playoff, barring a blowout.

Alabama finishes the regular season with a Week 13 game against the Eastern Illinois Panthers, followed by a night trip to Auburn to face the Tigers. Trips to Auburn are always unpredictable, and this year the Tigers will try to spoil the Crimson Tide’s playoff hopes.

End Of My College Football Playoff Rant

Through the final two weeks of the regular season, expect a ton of shakeups in the playoff picture. Every win and loss will carry major weight when the committee selects the final 12 teams on Dec. 7.
