Philadelphia, going into their game against the Panthers this past Sunday, was already in a downward spiral. But after losing 25-14 to Carolina, the Eagles are hitting new lows and are officially in complete disarray.

This loss marks the first time Philadelphia has lost four straight games during Nick Sirianni’s tenure. Their defeat to the Panthers is also the first time in 27 years the Eagles didn’t record 250 yards of offense in four straight games per John Clark.

Jalen Hurts Being Out Makes Eagles Offensive Woes Even Worse

Last week it was revealed that Jalen Hurts small blood clot, which initially was in his calf, had moved up. This situation got even more scary as on Monday it was announced Hurts would miss the rest of the season.

As he’s being placed on blood thinners for the next three months. Philadelphia was an offense that was already struggling with the former Super Bowl MVP under center. Jalen Hurts played a part in the offense’s issues, but it wasn’t solely a Hurts problem.

Eagles Offensive Line Sharp Decline

There are many problems with the Eagles offense; for one, the falloff of their offensive line has been steep. From the late 2010’s to 2024, it was baked in Philadelphia had a top five offensive line or arguably the best o-line depending on the year.

Where we stand currently, they’re far away from those heights Eagles fans grew accustomed to. After the retirement of Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens not being the same players due to injuries.

In addition to Jurgens being traded earlier this month to Baltimore for a 2028 second-round pick. Along with Jurgens replacement at center, Drew Kendall, who missed the past two weeks because of a knee injury.

Philadelphia’s offensive line used to contain a combination of three, four, or even five pro bowl/all-pro caliber linemen. Now it’s left with only one player of that caliber in Jordan Malita, who’s now surrounded by rookies and only one average lineman in Tyler Steen.

Eagles Predictably On Offense Is Making Defenses Jobs Easy

Philadelphia’s offense is easy to defend, defenses can easily predict what the Eagles want to do when their under-center game because their run concepts are bland. They complement their vanilla run concepts pretty frequently with the QB doing a play-action bootleg right into pressure off the edge.

Their screen game has been terrible all season, and until this previous week they still insisted on trying to make it work. Philadelphia showed zero positive flashes on screens the first five weeks of this season; there’s zero foundation to come back to if they wanted to take it off the shelf later on in the year.

Eagles Struggle To Find Answers Against The Blitz

Anytime the defense brings six or more players to the line of scrimmage, the Eagles act like they have never seen a defense do that before. Consistently, they can’t come up with any good hot answers to the blitz.

Their problems answering the blitz were evident in week four against the Rams. Los Angeles, per Next Gen Stats, blitzed Hurts on his dropbacks at their highest blitz rate ever, with Chris Shula as defensive coordinator, at 60.6%

On third down specifically, the Rams blitzed Philadelphia on 11 of their 12 third downs. They left that game recording six pressures and a sack on their third-down blitzes.

Eagles Rushing Attack Is Another Bad Aspect Of Their Offense

Philadelphia’s run game is anemic, while it’s important to note Saquon Barkley has only played two games from start to finish. But even when Barkley has played fully, they’ve still struggled to run the ball.

A part of this is the offensive line falling off, but also the Eagles’ tight ends play a significant role in their scheme. The problem with this is they don’t have the tight ends to make this scheme successful.

Outside of Dallas Goedert, their other tight ends can’t consistently block well in the run game. You combine that with Barkley being injured and injuries to their RB2 and RB3 in Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley.

You get the Eagles not being able to reach a run of 10 or more yards this past Sunday, per Sumer Sports. Marking the third time they’ve done this season, and being only the fourth team to do this since 2016.

Eagles Are The NFL’s Worst Second Half Offense

After week four, the Eagles’ offense in the second half ranked dead last in PPG, YPG, Yards Per Play, and Yards Per Attempt.

While in red zone percentage and third-down percentage, they were better but still ranked at the bottom of the NFL. Their red zone percentage ranked 28th at 33.3%, and on third down they ranked 26th at 29.6%.

Philadelphia’s second-half offense hasn’t improved in any areas; they’ve only gotten worse in the past two weeks. After week five, they still ranked last in the league in PPG, YPG, and Yards Per Play.

Yet their third-down and red zone percentage dropped to ranking 31st in the NFL. They landed in the 0th percentile for second-half offense and were the worst offense by half through 5 weeks since 2023, per Sumer Sports.

Once it was backup quarterback Tanner Mckee’s time to be the starter, the second-half offense continued its downward trend. Following their week six loss to Carolina, according to TruMedia, the Eagles have a 31.3% offensive success rate in the second half.

This not only ranks last for this season but is near the worst mark in a season since 2000 with the 2010 Panthers. Who in that season ended with a 34.1% second-half offensive success rate and ended the year with a 2-14 record.

Eagles Offensive Incompetence Is Exhausting Their Defense

Philadelphia’s offensive struggles, especially in the second half, are affecting their defense. Their offense already has a high number of drives ending in three-and-outs in the first half.

This leads to their defense taking the field a lot. As going into week seven they have an average time on the field of 32:36, which ranks third-highest in the NFL.

In the second half, it gets even worse as their predictable offense gets figured out after halftime. In the second half specifically, Philadelphia’s defense’s average time on the field is 17:55, which is the highest mark in the league.

As a result causing their defense to be gassed because they’re on the field so much. This is clearly the case, as the Eagles defense is dead last in YPG and Rush YPG Allowed in the second half. They also rank 27th and 29th in yards per play, pressure rate, yards per attempt allowed, and passer rating allowed.

End Of Eagles Are In Disarray Rant

Even with DeVonta Smith returning to the lineup in week five, Barkley suiting up this week, and Dickerson coming back in a few weeks. There is no hope for the Eagles to stop the downward spiral they’re heading towards.

Their defense is still good enough to keep them in games they in reality should have no business being in. Yet we all know this season is on a collision course for Philadelphia to fire the root of their problems, Nick Sirianni.
