There is a possibility that Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker could be a free agent this offseason. The Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and Washington Commanders are top landing spots for Walker.
Walker is set to earn a major contract and join the ranks of the highest-paid RBs. He became the first RB to win the Super Bowl MVP since Broncos RB Terrell Davis in 1998.
The Panthers are named as a top landing spot for the Super Bowl MVP. There have been murmurs about running back Rico Dowdle potentially being a free agent.
Having a back who is elusive and creative can overcome and compensate for losing reps from the offensive line/blocking scheme. It also helps the pass game be more efficient via check-downs and routes from the backfield that can legitimately threaten defenses.
The Broncos could be in the running back market and have floated Walker as a fit. Pairing him with RJ Harvey and JK Dobbins, alongside quarterback Bo Nix, would upgrade their offense.
They need to add Walker this offseason as a free agent or draft a running back in the later rounds to avoid an incident like Dobbins’ foot injury. Denver could have used Dobbins in the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots.
Walker and Breece Hall will be a priority for the Chiefs. Kansas City does not have enough cap space for both players, let alone one of them. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes will miss at least eight to ten weeks. Tight end Travis Kelce is too old for good defenses to be afraid of now.
Neither will be available. Hall is coming off a career year and is likely to have multiple suitors, while Walker just secured his bag. Jeremiah Love should be the hope of every Chiefs fan. He is an elite back who can take a lot of pressure off of Mahomes.
The Commanders are named as a landing spot for Walker. They are armed with about $76M in cap space to upgrade the backfield while Jacory Croskey-Merritt develops.
They should sign Walker, a receiving threat at TE, and add speed to the wide receiver room. Now watch QB Jayden Daniels flourish and stay healthy in this offense. With his processing skills and quick release, it’s a match made in heaven.
Walker’s transformation from a speed demon homerun hitter to being a more controlled and the most patient RB in the league is really cool to see. He was good early in his career, but he is great now. When the lights were brightest, he delivered his biggest game of the year. That is the league. Seasons are long. Opportunities come.
