The Pistons snapped an NBA-record 15-game postseason-long losing streak by winning Game 2 versus the New York Knicks on April 21st, 2025, marking their first playoff victory since May 26th, 2008.
This long gap in time spanned 17 years without a playoff victory, the longest active streak in any of the Major sports leagues. Detroit had made the playoffs three times during the drought, but each time, they were swept.
Pistons fans are extremely grateful for their superstar, Cade Cunningham, who dropped 33 points and 12 rebounds during the historic night.
Dennis Schroder hit a crucial three-pointer late in the game that sealed the victory for Detroit. The Pistons sustained an eight-point lead after the third quarter, fending off a Knicks rally in the fourth.
Detroit has been involved in many tough, intense finishes this season, highlighting the experience they have accumulated.
The Knicks went on a 21-0 run in the fourth quarter of Game 1 en route to a 123-112 victory. The rally began with contributions from Cameron Payne, Jalen Brunson, and Josh Hart, all providing crucial points that turned around the ending of this contest.
This electrifying run immensely shifted the game’s momentum, silencing Detroit’s hopes and chances of securing their first playoff victory since 2008 that night.
Brunson finished with 34 points, a good majority coming from the 21-point differential. The longest run the Knicks had in Game 2 was a 16-4 stretch in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 94. The run was harmful to Detroit’s lead until they regained control in the last few minutes.

The Pistons controlled much of the contest, which put them in a position to defend any possible stretches New York could generate. With the series tied and shifting to Detroit for Game Three, the momentum is up for grabs for whoever can take it.
