This season, the 2026 New York Mets have undergone a series of seismic changes—most of which have only deepened the franchise’s woes. From the controversial decision to part ways with franchise cornerstone Pete Alonso, affectionately known as the “Polar Bear,” to the surprising exit of longtime stalwart David Peterson after seven seasons in Queens, the Mets have left fans reeling. Plagued by erratic play and costly mistakes that have tanked their position in the NL East, the only consistency for the Mets has been uncertainty. As a result, the Flushing faithful are left to wonder: will this team find a way to rally, or are they destined to keep crumbling under the pressure?

The Mets Were Being Messy And Pete Packed His Things

Pete Alonso was not just one of the most respected and beloved New York Mets players—he was the heart and soul of the franchise. Every Major League Baseball team has a superstar capable of electrifying the crowd, but for Mets fans, no one compares to Pete Alonso. His impact at Citi Field was undeniable, making him an iconic figure in Mets history.

However, in 2025, fans could sense he might not be coming back, especially after he went back and forth on his contract options. After three months of negotiations, Pete Alonso and the New York Mets eventually agreed to a measly two-year, $54 million contract, allowing Pete an opt-out after the 2025 season. Understandably, Pete, as well as the fans, were less than satisfied with the deal. He was leaving. The fans were saying no; however, the organization was ready for him to go.

From poor defense to inconsistent offense, almost everything that could go wrong has. Missing the playoffs to the Cincinnati Reds after tying with them for the final spot. Despite the fact that in 2025, the Mets signed Juan Soto to a $765 million contract, even he couldn’t bring the New York Mets back their spark. Clueless Cohen may have made a splash by signing Soto, but he also left a sour taste in people’s mouths. Without a care in the world, he let go of Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso, as well as allowing the trading of Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo.

Even with Soto’s signing, the team was in full collapse. After missing the playoffs with a humiliating loss to the Miami Marlins, the Mets continued to fall. That point was proven April 8-21, when they had a disastrous 12-game losing streak. That was their worst losing streak since the 2004 season, when they lost 11 straight games through August 28-September 8. Of course, their downhill destruction wouldn’t be complete without the crashing of their closer, Devin Williams.

Carlos Mendoza Was Moving On Out

On June 26, 2026, the New York Mets fired their manager, Carlos Mendoza. While it was a relief and a joy  for some, others believed that the whole management team needed to be dismissed. When Carlos Mendoza was fired, the Mets had a disappointing record of 34-47. Andy Green is now the New York Mets’ intern manager, and little improvement has been made in their performance and their current standings aren’t helping.

Why Are The 2026 New York Mets So Bad This Year?

  • The errors.
  • 17 games under .500
  • 16 games back in the National League East Division
  • 12 games back in the National League Wild Card
  • April 8-21, when they had a disastrous 12-game losing streak
  • The missed opportunities to score, especially when the bases were loaded with nobody out

End Of My 2026 New York Mets Rant

The New York Mets now face an uphill battle during the second half of the 2026 season. Unless significant roster changes are made and the organization finds stability, the team risks wasting another season despite its enormous payroll. Bottom line is we need stubborn Stearns and Clueless Cohen can get it together and start taking baseball and the team seriously, the New York Mets are going to stay in last place since it’s a position they seem to be comfortable with.
