The Houston Texans acquired running back David Montgomery from the Detroit Lions for offensive lineman Juice Scruggs and two draft picks. This marked the end of the Sonic and Knuckles era, also known as the Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs running back duo.
Montgomery’s departure is expected to impact the Lions’ locker room dynamics and leadership. He spent the past three seasons with the Lions after four years with the Chicago Bears.
The Red-Zone Savior Texans Needed

David is a legit 230-pound back with a nose for the end zone. This is exactly what Houston lacked all of last year without Joe Mixon taking a single snap.
The Texans added a true goal-line and early-down back in Montgomery. Expect him to lead in carries and boost their red-zone rate. In Detroit, Jahmyr Gibbs’ usage and touchdown props will get a lift.
The offensive line is a concern due to the loss of Tytus Howard, but getting David is still a win for Houston. He and Marks will make a great combo, and Jawhar Jordan can be dynamic as a change of pace back.
Montgomery upgrades Houston’s backfield alongside quarterback CJ Stroud, creating a lethal run game. The Lions gained draft capital plus Juice Scruggs for O-line depth that QB Jared Goff would love. This trade worked out for both teams.
End Of My David Montgomery And Houston Texans Rant

Houston moved pieces out and brought in exactly what their offense was missing, all in the same morning. Howard to the Cleveland Browns reshapes two offensive lines simultaneously, and Montgomery gives the Texans the physical back they have been rebuilding around every offseason.
Texans are going to get wide receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell back. They have a very deep wide receiver group. Tight end Dalton Schultz is still good. The Montgomery addition was a good pickup. They need to upgrade the offensive line.
