Bayern Munich is a great German soccer club that has won many trophies in Germany and Europe. They have had some world-class players on their teams. Their great players ensured glory for the club in various decades, and these are a few that had the most impact.
Gerd Müller was one of a golden generation of German soccer stars who played for Bayern in the 1970s. For Bayern Munich, Müller scored an unmatched number of goals for the club, with 365 Bundesliga goals. 66 goals were also scored in the European Cup, and the forward scored in two of Bayern’s three European Cup finals during the period.
Without Müller, Bayern probably would not have won so many trophies, and the German soccer team also flourished as Müller’s goal clinched victory for West Germany in the 1974 FIFA World Cup final. He scored the third-highest number of goals in the World Cup.
A legend of German soccer, Beckenbauer was a defender and sweeper who played hundreds of games for Bayern Munich. This is one of the players included in the Bayern Munich Hall of Fame. Beckenbauer made the sweeper role his own, and there have been few more effective in ‘sweeping up’ at the back.
The defender played over 100 games for the German national team, among them a couple of World Cup finals. The first was the 1966 final, and the latter was the 1974 final in which Beckenbauer lifted the trophy.
Robben was a key player in the Bayern teams that dominated German soccer during the 2010s. Robben could play either on the centre or left side of midfield. This winger had great pace and scored a number of goals from midfield. He has scored some great goals for Bayern and was the German Footballer of the Year in one season. With Robben alongside a contingent of German soccer stars, Bayern won eight league titles, one Champions League, and five domestic cups.
Kahn is one of two keepers included within Bayern’s Hall of Fame. From the 1990s, the goalkeeper played hundreds of games for the club and won almost all the trophies in Germany and Europe with them. The Bundesliga, German Cup, German League Cup, UEFA Cup, and the Champions League were all won with Kahn in goal. In seven seasons with the club, Kahn was the Bundesliga’s goalkeeper of the season, and also scooped the FIFA Golden Ball with Germany.
Elber is one of the few foreign players included in the Bayern Munich Hall of Fame. The Brazilian forward was influential in Bayern’s triumphant Champions League season. Elber scored vital goals for them in the quarter-finals and semi-final matches with Real Madrid. Overall, Elber scored more than 100 goals for the club and played in a number of Bundesliga title-winning Bayern teams.
Müller is a Bayern Munich legend who played a record number of games for Die Bayern from 2010 up to 2024. As an attacking midfielder, he excelled at exploiting space and assisting forward players. His 21 assists in the 2019/2020 season were a Bundesliga record for the number of assists. Bayern Munich flourished with Müller as he won an astonishing 13 league titles while playing for them. Müller also won two Champions League titles and six German Cups at Bayern.
