Shedeur Sanders has and always will have a target on his back. When he fell to 144 in the 2025 NFL Draft, there were pockets of football fans who celebrated his fall. Some speculated it was because of arrogance, and therefore, the slide was rightly deserved. Others, including notable pundits, said the drop was due to a lack of football ability. Whatever the reason, Sanders found himself in a quarterback room with four other players, and speculatively, the low man on the totem pole.

Already facing a task akin to pushing a boulder uphill, Sanders did not do himself any favors Wednesday morning. At 12:24 AM, on June 18, 2025, he was pulled over and cited for traveling 101 miles per hour in his Dodge Ram TRX. This was 41 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 60. A woman he was travelling with, in a separate car, was allegedly travelling at 92 miles per hour, and let off with a warning.

What Will Happen To Shedeur Sanders?

According to Ohio’s Traffic Sentencing Tables, the infraction (travelling in excess of 30mph over the speed limit) is a four-point offense, and would require a court appearance and at least a $227 fine. The publicity surrounding the case will make it difficult to plea bargain, but depending on Sanders’ current allocation of points on his license, and the time of the incident (no traffic), it’s possible he could be let off with a lighter slap on the wrist.

It is not being reported that Sanders was under the influence, driving recklessly (other than speeding), and by all news accounts, he was respectful and polite to the officers involved. Despite the factors, the same crowd who gleefully cheered at his fall in the draft will call for the book to be thrown at Sanders, and will jeer anything short of life in prison. This crowd will be disappointed and deservedly so.

From the standpoint of the Cleveland Browns, this will not affect anything. Sanders’ work ethic has been reported and applauded by coaches and teammates, and the infraction itself was one where nobody was harmed and no drugs or alcohol were involved. In all likelihood, Sanders will report to training camp on time, face no discipline from the team, and win the starting job by midseason, which he was already on pace to do.

End Of My Shedeur Sanders Rant

By all accounts, this story is actually a non-story. It’s about a young man acting like a young man, and nobody was hurt. If this were Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, nobody would hear about it happening. The fact that it’s Sanders is why it appears as a blip on the news radar today, and will be gone tomorrow. Sorry to disappoint all the racists and jealous folks rooting against this young man, but this incident will not derail his career. In less than 24 hours, it will be as if it never happened at all.
