SEC basketball. It just means more. The SEC sent 14 teams to the big dance Sunday evening with March Madness set to tip off later this week.

Historic Season For SEC Basketball

What a fun season for the SEC! When you think of the conference, you might immediately think it’s a football powerhouse. But hold on—SEC basketball was equally, if not more extraordinary this year.

The conference recorded an impressive .889 winning percentage in non-conference games, and it took down ACC schools with a remarkable 30-4 record. Additionally, the SEC went 14-2 against the Big 12 and had a close 10-9 record against the Big Ten.

It’s a significant accomplishment for a league that hasn’t always been at the forefront of college basketball. This was an unbelievable season for the SEC, showcasing the talent and competitiveness that make it a historically great league.

Florida, Auburn Headline The No.1 Seeds

Auburn will be the top overall seed, and Florida is also among the top seeds entering March Madness.

For the first time in program history, Auburn will be a No. 1 overall seed, while Florida will also be back as a No. 1 seed for the first time since 2014, the year the Gators last made it to the Final Four.

It’s a great accomplishment at the top of the SEC and serves as a strong representation for the league as well.

The Best Of The Rest

Alabama and Tennessee also earned high seeds, both receiving No. 2 seeds, while Kentucky secured a No. 3 seed. Texas A&M got a No. 4 seed, and both Ole Miss and Missouri came in at No. 6 seeds.

Mississippi State earned an 8 seed, while Oklahoma and Georgia both secured No. 9 seeds. Arkansas rounded out the group as a No. 10 seed, along with Vanderbilt also as a No. 10 seed. Texas came in as a bubble team with a No. 11 seed and will play in the play-in game in Dayton against Xavier.

The Big East set the previous record for the most teams in the NCAA tournament in 2011 with 11 teams, but the SEC broke that record today with 14 teams making the field. This achievement highlights why the SEC was the best conference in the sport this season.

Another key stat is that Oklahoma and Texas, in their first season in the SEC, both made the NCAA tournament, which adds to the great story for the league.

End Of My SEC NCAA Tournament Rant

SEC

It’s a fantastic accomplishment for a league that has traditionally been known more for football than basketball. The way SEC basketball has dominated the headlines this season sets an example of why this will be one of the best leagues we’ve seen in quite some time moving forward.

With the top teams like Auburn and Florida, along with Tennessee and Alabama, the rest of the field has the chance this week to make more history by sending additional teams to the Sweet 16, depending on how the games unfold with wins and losses.

The SEC needs to cement its case this week in March Madness by performing at a high level and proving that this conference is the best in the country. By winning their games, they can show the world they are the top league.

It’s impressive to see how this conference makes up a significant portion of the brackets, highlighting the strength and depth of the SEC right now.

This past weekend showcased the future potential of the SEC when it’s performing at its highest level during the SEC tournament. Now it’s time to gear up for the big tournament and aim to break even more records.
