The Seattle Seahawks drafted Ricky White III with the 238th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The wide receiver was well deserving of the selection after an outstanding college career at Michigan State and UNLV. Ricky brought home honors such as First-Team All-Mountain West as well as Third-Team All-American. Seattle adds much needed depth to their wide receiver room and special teams. Much attention from the media was not given due to the program he played most of his college for, but Ricky has what it takes to find success at the next level. Ricky’s teammate Jackson Woodard, was signed by the Seahawks, hours later as an undrafted free agent.
Both White and Woodard were captains for and key contributors for the UNLV Football program. Their reunion in Seattle could foster immediate locker room chemistry and help both develop into the play makers the Seahawks hoped them to be. Ricky and Jackson will be remembered as the players that were the key turning point in the turnaround in Las Vegas. Seattle is also in search for a turnaround to playoff success.
Ricky White III, became the first UNLV player selected in the NFL Draft since 2010. Ricky is a dynamic wide out who set a school record with,483 receiving yards in 2023 and followed it up with another 1,000 yard campaign in 2024. He also bring elite value for the special teams, having been named the Mountain west Special Teams Player of the Year after blocking four punts.
Jackson Woodard, signed as an undrafted free agent, was the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in 2024. He led the Rebels with 135 tackles, three sacks, and four interceptions, helping UNLV reach the LA Bowl and a top-25 finish. Woodard has a known reputation for elite instincts, leadership, and defensive success that gives him a strong foundation to compete for a roster spot. His connection with Seahawks defensive assistant Josh Bynes,who coached him at the East-West Shrine Bowl, could also help him crack the Seahawks 53 man roster.
The Seahawks additions of two valuable UNLV captains gives them not only two leaders but also players that address needs. Their chemistry is another element that can help Seattle continue to carve out a distinct identity under young head coach Mike McDonald.
