Domantas Sabonis could emerge as a major trade target this offseason. Why could the Los Angeles LakersBrooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, and Charlotte Hornets pursue the Sacramento Kings’ All-Star center? What would potential deals look like?

Sabonis has two years left on his contract. In 2026-27, he will make $45.4 million, and $48.6 million in 2027-28.

Why Pairing Domantas Sabonis With Luka Doncic Changes Everything (But Solves Nothing)

Sabonis being available in trade talks gives the Lakers a potential chance to pursue the star center. A Luka Doncic and Sabonis pairing in the frontcourt changes everything because Sabonis’ passing skills as a big man would make it easier on offense for Doncic. There are concerns about their defensive limitations.

A hypothetical trade could involve them having to give up Rui Hachimura, DeAndre Ayton, Jared Vanderbilt, Dalton Knecht, and a 2031 first-round pick. Their potential starting lineup could be Doncic, Austin Reaves, Marcus Smart, LeBron James (if he stays), and Sabonis. Los Angeles would still need a center who can grab rebounds, play defense, and roll to the basket for lobs.

Why Trading For Domantas Sabonis Is Brooklyn’s Blueprint To Speed Up The Rebuild

The Nets should make a move this summer to acquire Sabonis. They should target him because he is the blueprint that will help Brooklyn speed up their rebuild by making them return to respectability without sacrificing flexibility.

Jordi Fernández was the Kings’ associate head coach for Sabonis’s two best seasons. There’s familiarity there, and his fit raises everyone’s game. Egor Demin gets a top handoff/passing big in basketball to play off. If the Nets draft Mikel Brown Jr., he gets a screener and a release valve from day one. Sabonis makes young guards look better.

Timeline-wise, the trade is clean. Sabonis is the perfect transition star, still good enough to make All-Star games, but short enough that he does not block the kids’ runway. He may not be here when Brooklyn truly contends; he is not supposed to be.

Lastly, the price won’t hurt. A small salary filler, taking on his deal, plus second-rounders or minor assets, likely gets it done. No core picks, no rookies. It’s a move that is not flashy but makes sense. A theoretical trade scenario would involve them having to give up Nic Claxton, Terance Mann, and the sixth pick. Their potential starting lineup would be Brown Jr., Demin, Michael Porter Jr., Noah Clowney, and Sabonis.

Why Trading RJ Barrett Makes No Sense And How The Raptors Can Actually Fix The Offense

A name that the Raptors are considering is Sabonis. A hypothetical trade package could involve them having to give up RJ Barrett and Jakob Poeltl. RJ being involved in any deal makes no sense because trading him would remove one of Toronto’s most productive offensive players and could create additional scoring concerns around Scottie Barnes. He is from Canada, playing in his hometown.

Instead of getting Sabonis, they can fix the offense by getting someone who creates advantages. Everybody thought that would be Brandon Ingram, but some critics view him as a player who can slow the offensive flow. The Raptors should instead get a point guard who is a real shooting threat but is fast enough to get by his defender.

Why The Hornets Trading For Sabonis Could Create The League’s Most Entertaining Duo

According to reports, NBA senior writer  Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Kings and the Hornets recently discussed a potential trade involving Sabonis. No deal is imminent, and nothing seems close before the draft, but Charlotte would indeed have some interest in the Lithuanian big man. They are looking for a starting center this summer, despite the promising showings from Moussa Diabate and Ryan Kalkbrenner.

A hypothetical trade package would involve them having to give up Miles Bridges, Josh Green, and a first-round pick. A LaMelo Ball-Sabonis pairing could be one of the most entertaining duos in the NBA. Sabonis can be utilized as a hub for their offense to take the load off Ball. Their starting lineup could be Ball, Coby White, Kon Knueppel, Brandon Miller, and Sabonis.

End Of My Domantas Sabonis Rant

Sabonis is coming off a challenging season, limited to 19 games due to a meniscus issue, but his resume remains weighty: three-time All-Star, All-NBA in 2023 and 2024, and the NBA’s leading rebounder for three straight seasons, from 2023 to 2025. Since arriving with the Kings, he’s averaged 19.0 points per game, 13.1 rebounds per game, and 6.9 assists per game.

There has to be a team that wants a guy who’s averaged a double-double for nine consecutive seasons. Perhaps the Lakers, who’ve tried the Deandre Ayton experiment this season with below-average results, are an option. The Raptors were the team most talked about before the trade deadline.
