As Manchester United’s struggles continue, Ruben Amorim names Viktor Gyokeres as his transfer target.
In recent days, it’s been reported that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has decided to target Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres during the transfer window. The Daily Star broke the news, and the signing could prove useful for United.
The signing of Gyokeres could be very beneficial to United. Since Amorim took charge of the club, United has struggled to perform well. They went through four straight defeats, which fans aren’t excited to see. A new signing or two might change things around at struggling United.
Amorim’s demands that the club sign Gyokeres this winter might not happen. Earlier, Amorim shared that the club won’t be able to make any signings this January. The only way to sign stars such as Gyokeres would be through selling some players to generate more funds.
United’s chase after the Swedish star isn’t impossible. Amorim, along with fans, expect that both Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee won’t remain at the club. The fallout of Amorim with Rashford has been clear in recent weeks. With the possibility of the club selling some of its stars, Gyokeres might wear red soon.
The club will certainly need to gather funds if they want the Gyokeres deal to happen. The Sporting striker has a release clause of £80 million. It’s expected that Amorim’s old club will want any bidders to pay the full price if they want Gyokeres’ services.
If the deal to sign Gyokeres happens, the striker should be able to fit in with Amorim’s squad. Erik ten Hag’s successor is already familiar with Gyokeres’s talent and playing style, having coached Sporting. This could make it easier for the star to fit in at Manchester United.
It is, of course, helpful that he would be training under his old coach if he joined the Red Devils. While Amorim has previously stated that he won’t try to sign any Sporting players in January, this could change. With Manchester United’s continuous struggles, Amorim might be willing to consider any possible solutions. Gyokeres might be the answer to helping Manchester United find their way back to winning.
