Roman Reigns defends the World Heavyweight Championship against LA Knight at WWE Money in the Bank on Oct. 10 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The champion issued the challenge himself on the Sept. 14 Raw in Mexico City. The event is the first Money in the Bank to stream on ESPN in the United States.
Reigns retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta on that Raw. Moments later, Knight blindsided Reigns with a BFT after the bell. Walking up the ramp afterward, the champion stopped to address WWE cameras.
“This is what I’m talking about. I’m sick and tired of it, all these beggars,” Reigns said. “You want it? If he wants it, he can get it. Money in the Bank, New Orleans, down south. I’m gonna whoop his —- ass.” Raw General Manager Adam Pearce made the match official the next day.
Knight demanded a title opportunity on Raw after SummerSlam, accusing Reigns of relying on The Bloodline. The champion turned him down, saying the challenger had not earned it. The tension grew after Knight helped Solo Sikoa resist pressure from The Bloodline. During a backstage investigation, Reigns answered with a Superman Punch.
On the Sept. 21 Raw, Knight said Reigns has never beaten him without help from The Bloodline. The Megastar also pointed out that the two had not faced each other in three years. Knight vowed that the Tribal Chief would have to acknowledge him as the new champion after Money in the Bank.
Reigns won the 2026 Royal Rumble on Jan. 31, his second victory in the match, eliminating Gunther last with a Spear. The Tribal Chief then beat CM Punk in the main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 42 on April 19 to win the World Heavyweight Championship. The victory began his first reign with that title.
Before this run, Reigns held the Universal Championship for 1,316 days, from Aug. 30, 2020, to April 7, 2024. The reign is the longest in the history of that title. The Usos and Paul Heyman stood with him through much of it as members of The Bloodline.
Reigns and Knight have met with a world title on the line before. At Crown Jewel on Nov. 4, 2023, Knight challenged Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and lost after Jimmy Uso interfered. At Royal Rumble on Jan. 27, 2024, the Tribal Chief won a fatal four-way that also included the Megastar and Randy Orton, retaining by pinning AJ Styles.
Knight also challenged for the World Heavyweight Championship in a fatal four-way at Clash in Paris in 2025, a match Seth Rollins won. The Megastar has held the United States Championship twice, winning the first reign against Logan Paul at SummerSlam 2024. In the 2026 Royal Rumble, Knight eliminated Austin Theory and Bronson Reed.

Reigns needs to beat Knight clean in New Orleans. No Bloodline run-in, no referee distraction, and no shortcut. Knight built the challenge on one accusation, that the champion cannot win without help. The Megastar has done the talking since SummerSlam, and the champion has to respond with action. The answer has to come in the middle of the ring, one on one.
Crown Jewel 2023 still hangs over the matchup. Jimmy Uso’s interference handed Reigns that win. Knight never got a straight answer, and the Megastar said as much on the Sept. 21 Raw. A Superman Punch and a Spear with nobody else involved gives him one. Knight needs a loss with no asterisk, and the Tribal Chief needs a win with no help.
A clean win helps the Megastar too. Losing straight up to the Tribal Chief is no disgrace, and it ends the excuse for good. A rematch would have nothing left to sell. Reigns has already won the Royal Rumble and beaten Punk at WrestleMania in 2026. Walking out of the Smoothie King Center with the title and the argument settled caps the year.
