Willie Mays, A Baseball Legend On And Off The Field, Sadly Passed Away At 93 On Tuesday

The MLB world is mourning the loss of one of the best players ever to wear a baseball uniform on Tuesday when 24-time All-Star Willie Mays passed away.

Mays started his career at the age of 17 as a member of the Birmingham Black Barons, part of the Negro Leagues, and before you knew it, was playing in the MLB at the age of 21 as a member of the New York Giants.

Mays spent six seasons in New York before the team headed west and moved to San Francisco. He would spend 14 seasons in the Bay Area before returning to the Big Apple to play one season with the New York Mets.

Mays brought home many awards, including 12 Gold Gloves, Rookie Of The Year, two league MVPs, Two All-Star Game MVPs, a batting title, and the 1954 World Series, where he had one of the best catches you will ever see.

During Game One of the 1954 World Series, Mays made the play of his life against the Cleveland Indians in the eighth inning when a deep fly ball went to center field for Cleveland with runners in scoring position in a tied ball game. While on the run, Mays made an over-the-shoulder catch and prevented the runners from scoring. The Giants would win the game in extra innings and then win the series.

Losing one of the game's icons is sad because Mays left a legacy on and off the field. Many people looked up to him and even had major league-level careers because of what Mays did.

Everyone will miss Willie Mays, and baseball will not be the same without him.
