What To Watch For During The Lions Vs. Seahawks Explosive Matchup 10/2/22

The injury bug has hit the Lions hard, especially on offense, but an exciting and high-scoring game can still be expected.

Jared Goff Without His Top Weapons

Amon-Ra St. Brown and D’Andre Swift were ruled out earlier this week, but DJ Chark also being ruled out came as somewhat of a surprise when it was announced on Saturday. Goff will have to turn to trusted target Josh Reynolds, TJ Hockenson, Kalif Raymond, and Quintez Cephus to move the ball down the field. Goff was forced to operate most of last season without all of his stars on the field, but the results were not always inspiring. Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson will have to get creative with his play calling if he wants to exploit the Seahawk’s porous defense.

Jamaal Williams is also a reliable option out of the backfield. He is known more as a power back but will have to be versatile while filling in for Swift this week.

Disrupting Geno Smith And Forcing Turnovers On Defense

Geno Smith is not a great quarterback, but he has shown he can be a decent game manager. Aidan Hutchinson and the rest of the Lion’s defense must get pressure on Geno and force him to make mistakes. He has thrown two interceptions through the first three games, but also has a 77.5% completion percentage. The Lions must play aggressive, or else Geno may be able to dink and dunk all day long, especially if he is not pressured and the Lions are concerned about DK Metcalf beating them deep.

Will The New Lions Kicker Be A Hero Or Scapegoat In His Second NFL Game

The Lions signed Dominik Eberle, after ruling Austin Seibert out. I consider myself a massive fan of the entire NFL, and I will admit I hadn’t heard of this guy.

Eberle will have an opportunity to kickstart his NFL career by capitalizing on his opportunities. The question I have is how much will this affect Dan Campbell’s already aggressive game management on offense? I expect the Lions to go for it on almost all fourth and short situations whenever they are near the middle of the field. There are a lot of potential situations running through my head ranging from Eberle being a disaster and costing the Lions the game, to kicking a 60-yard game winner and becoming the full-time kicker for the Lions the rest of the season and beyond. We’ll have to wait and see how it

plays out.

Final Analysis and Score Prediction

Every week seems like a “must win” in the NFL, but when you start 1-2, the urgency sets in. There is a huge difference between starting 1-3 and 2-2 when it comes to league and division standings and the perception of whether or not the team is a contender or a pretender.

To summarize, the Lions must pressure Geno Smith, force him to make mistakes, and not allow him to carve them up with short passes. Jared Goff must continue to play with confidence, despite missing his most dynamic pass catchers. Goff’s decision making and accuracy will be counted on if the Lions stand a chance to compete in this game. Finally, the new kicker Dominik Eberle must step up when called upon. It will be up to Dan Campbell’s decision making on what situations to trust Eberle’s leg or not.

Both the Lions and Seahawks have weaknesses at defense. Even with the injuries on offense for the Lions, I still expect a high-scoring and back and forth game this afternoon.

Score Prediction: Lions 31 Seahawks 27
