Week Two College Football Best Bets 2022
We take a look at my Week Two college football best bets. I love the board this week but this article will go into why these plays are my best bets for the weekend.
#10 USC @ Stanford
USC imposed their will against Rice in week one. Quarterback Caleb Williams didn’t skip a beat with his new team. Rice isn’t a great team to do the eye test against, but USC still looked great in all aspects of the game. On offense, Caleb Williams and number one wide receiver Jordan Addison showed what this USC offense could do. Putting up 66 points and 538 total yards of offense. Head coach Lincoln Riley took out his starters pretty early and let some backups get their moment of glory, so USC should be primed and ready to go against Stanford.
USC’s defense also did pretty well. After a slow start and leaving up 14 points in the first half, USC anchored down and didn’t allow another point in the second half. With three pick sixes and four total turnovers, the Spartans were flying to the ball. The start of Lincoln Riley at USC couldn’t have gone better.
Stanford is no slouch of a team. Head coach David Shaw sees a future NFL star in his quarterback, Tanner McKee. McKee is a true pocket passer and a game-changing quarterback. With 308 yards and 2 touchdowns, McKee led his team to a week one win over Colgate. Stanford really showed they were a better team with their great ground game and stifling defense. Stanford running back E.J. Smith had 11 carries for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns.
On the defensive side, Stanford allowed 59 total passing yards. However, Stanford did not take care of the ball at all. With four turnovers, they will be focusing on ball security this week in practice for sure. Stanford pulled off the upset early last year against USC, but I think the new look USC takes care of business on the road this year.
Best Bet: USC -8 (-110)
Will Levis and Kentucky made us some money in week one and hopefully they do that again in week two. Florida is coming off a massive win against #7 Utah. Billy Napier had his team ready for his first ever game as head coach for the Florida Gators and it paid off in a big way. Quarterback Anthony Richardson showed his dynamic playmaking ability with 168 yards passing and 106 yards rushing. Florida’s offense runs through him in a huge way. Kentucky managed to let Miami of Ohio drop 290 yards on them. If you go back and watch the game, the Kentucky offensive line wasn’t great, and they seemed to struggle with their 3rd down offense. Kentucky didn’t look as dominant as they could have at home against a lower ranked team.
Florida has all the juice right now. They just beat #7 Utah with their brand new head coach and superstar in the making, quarterback Anthony Richardson. Florida managed to keep the game close in a slug fest between two good teams. Florida loves to run the ball, with 39 total rushing attempts and only 24 pass attempts. I think this game might be a little slower than people think. Kentucky likes to keep the ball on the ground and play conservative football. I think this game finishes a lot closer than people think and a classic let down spot. The public has bet on Florida enough to move the line from -4.5 to -6.5. I think that’s too many points for Florida to cover over a solid Kentucky team.

North Carolina @ Georgia St
Georgia St. had a tough week one matchup against South Carolina and their new offense. To everyone’s surprise, Georgia St was in this game. They were down 12-7 going into the half. Georgia St was solid on defense and doing enough on offense to move the ball and not put their defense into bad positions when they couldn’t score. The second half started and Georgia St actually came out and took the lead to go up 14-12. They had control of this game. South Carolina then managed to get a punt block that turned into a touchdown that put them up 28-14. The end of the game turned into a rock fight with a ton of punts and turnover on downs. All in all, Georgia St hung in there a lot more than people gave them credit for.
North Carolina had a crazy week one matchup against Appalachian St. That game ended 63-61 in a Tar Heel win. North Carolina displayed a high-powered offense and not a lot of defense. App St actually had more total yards than North Carolina, 649 to 567. North Carolina has a pass first offense and that seemed to be where Georgia St was struggling the most on defense. I think this matchup is a lot better than what people think it’s going to be. I think it will be another shoot out and a fun game to watch.
Best Bet: Game Total Points Over 64.5 (-110)
Missouri @ Kansas St
As someone who went to the University of Missouri, you can call me a homer for this pick. This pick isn’t because I am loyal to them, it’s because I like the line. Kansas St has one of, if not the best running backs in the country in Deuce Vaughn. He rushed 18 times for 126 yards and a touchdown. To be fair, Kansas St played South Dakota in week one.
The K-State quarterback is Nebraska transfer Adrian Martinez, who had a different game. He passed for 11 completions and 53 yards, he rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown. Not as exciting of a game for him, but they didn’t need him to do anything special to win the game. However, they did not look good on their passing attempts against a lower-tier program. K-State can run the ball, but can they pass when the run fails is the question.
Missouri had an interesting week one matchup against Louisiana Tech. Mizzou got off to a very slow start (Mizzou fans know that’s not shocking), scoring zero first quarter points. The offense looked like they were a little handcuffed by play calls because head coach Eli Drinkwitz didn’t want to show K-State all his tricks. The offense finally clicked in the 2nd quarter when they scored 17 points. You can tell they wanted to work on some things for next week, as most of the plays seemed repetitive. The offense is a little bit of a concern, but with the talent at wide receiver, with Luther Burden and Dominic Lovett and the depth at running back, the offense should be more than enough to hang in with K-State and make this a close game. Mizzou also gave up a total of 11 rushing yards.
The defense always has five defensive backs and two linebackers, but they managed to dial up some pressure and bring down the safeties to help stop the run. If Mizzou can replicate that on Saturday they might have a real chance to win this game in an upset, but if not, I think this will be a close game.
