Week Three Bold Predictions: Eagles At Commanders
“Bold Predictions” last week almost became reality. DeVonta Smith had his bounce-back game, Darius Slay locked down Justin Jefferson, and Jalen Reagor secured zero catches. The Eagles left money on the table. Jalen Hurts could not have described Monday night against the Vikings any better.
Despite the best performance of Hurts’ Eagles career, the Eagles’ offense remained stagnant in the second half. With Carson Wentz lining up against his former team, except for some big performances this week with all the rent collected. Here we go are the Week Three bold predictions.
Bold Predictions Part One: Hurts So Good.
Following his amazing play on Monday night, Hurts will follow it up against his predecessor, Wentz. While Wentz will be doing his usual two-turnover classic, Hurts will be putting on a show. The Eagles’ quarterback will take another step into the elite conversation with five total touchdowns and 400+ total yards. This high-level performance will include zero turnovers as well. Hurts will finally prove all the Philadelphia Wentz’s fans wrong when he outperforms their former hero.
Stats: 24/28, 334 passing yards, and four touchdowns. 13 rushing attempts, 71 yards, and one touchdown.
Bold Predictions Part Two: Wentz Is Sacked 7+ Times.
The defensive line showed improvement in week two after defensive coordinator Jonathon Gannon showed many blitzes. This week, this defensive line and surging linebackers will get to Wentz at least seven times.
Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat will get two sacks a piece off the edge. Fletcher Cox will take advantage of Wentz’s habit of holding onto the ball to long and break a double team for a sack. Hasan Reddick will get another sack despite his lack of pass rushing in favor of sending him in coverage. In a rocking corner blitz that will result in a strip sack, Avonte Maddox will change the tide of the game early with this one.
Bold Predictions Part Three: Britain Covey Revenge Game.
No, Covey never played for the Commanders. The revenge is on his own team, the Eagles. On Monday night, the Eagles security team thought Covey was a fan and not the starting punt returner. This forced Covey to park with the insane fans of Philadelphia. Covey is going to let loose a bit when his number is called.
The Rookie has done a good job this year covering punts. The yards aren’t great, but securing the ball is very important to the game. While his secure punt retrieving skills are great, Covey is going to show the elusiveness this Sunday.
Stats: Six returns. Three fair catches. Average return of 15.6 yards and one touchdown of 63 yards.
Final Thoughts
This game should be pure domination. The Eagles are getting hot and the Commanders haven’t looked great so far. The Eagles fans travel well, so this game should almost feel like a neutral sighting. Look for all of these bold predictions to hit, but especially the sacks one. Wentz has failed to improve his pocket presence and when the pressure gets there, the mechanics loosen up which leads to picks.
