Week Four Ground And Pound: Jaguars At Eagles Recap

In week four, the Philadelphia Eagles (4-0) defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2) in a nasty game at Lincoln Financial Field. Both teams failed to move the ball through the air effectively outside of a few spark plays. Doug Pederson had his return spoiled, but his team is one to be proud of after their week four battle.

Key Plays

This Week Four matchup looked ugly due to the weather, but things started to get uglier. Jalen Hurts threw a pass into double coverage, intercepted by Andre Cisco, and returned 59 yards for the score. The Jacksonville defense forced a punt, leading to Trevor Lawrence driving his troops to an 80-yard touchdown drive. The Eagles were down 14-0 at home, and the crowd was not loving it after they failed to covert on 4th down in enemy territory.

To start the second, Fletcher Cox recovered a Lawrence fumble on 4th and three that shifted the game. Hurts led the Eagles down the field and took the last two runs himself to get the Eagles on the board. It was all Eagles from that point. Miles Sanders and Kenneth Gainwell each scored a touchdown from ten yards out.

After a Jake Elliot missed PAT to end the first half, the Jaguars started to march. At the Eagles 16-yard line, Lawrence through an interception to James Bradberry that led to an Elliot field goal from 28 yards out.

Haason Reddick got to Lawrence for a strip sack and recovered the ball himself with 12 minutes left in the 4th. This led to Sanders’ second touchdown of the game. Lawrence wasn’t done yet as he led a six-play 68-yard drive to put the Jaguars behind 21-29 with seven minutes.

The Eagles had a turnover on downs deep in Jacksonville territory with just under two minutes to play. Reddick saved the day with another strip-sack of Lawrence, leading to Hurts lining up the victory formation to cap off Week Four.
