Von Miller’s Impact Through Two Games

Von Miller has already gotten off to a great start in his very short Bills tenure. A lot of people saying the Bills over paid for him, or that he’s getting older, he’s washed, he doesn’t need to play for the Bills because he’s already won two rings. However that has not been the case at all through two games.

Miller’s Play

Through two games Miller has recorded two sacks, five tackles and several hurries on the opposing quarterbacks. In his first game as a Bill against his former team, he looked like prime Von Miller again. Always putting pressure on and rattling Matthew Stafford ultimately getting to him for two sacks.

He can beat you in so many ways. He can bull rush you, he has the speed to go around you, and he has other techniques that allow him to be able to get low and swat down the hands of the offensive tackle trying to block him.

His presence has been felt on the field at all times so far this year and it seems that he is just getting acclimated to this Buffalo Bills defense and the young players that he shares the line with.

The Miller impact

It’s been a long time since the Bills had an elite game-changing defensive lineman on their side. Especially one of hall of fame caliber like Von Miller. And what a lot of people don’t see is the effect of just having a big name player like that line up across from you. The whole game plan changes.

Your attention shifts to that player, You double team them, keep the tight end in to help block them or have the running back chip them on their way out of the backfield. The whole offensive game plan shifts and you have to account for the beast on the other side of the ball that could wreck your entire week of planning.

When this happens, that provides others the opportunities to make plays. A lot of times they are one on one and that gives them a chance to make a play. While Miller is drawing most of the attention, you have Rousseau and Phillips cleaning up the mess.

Rousseau has two sacks on the year already as well and Jordan Phillips is right behind him with one and a half sacks. Both of these guys have been destructive forces in both games and really put the pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

That’s what is so great about having a caliber player like Von Miller on your team. When he draws the attention and the double team, that opens up the rest of the guys to get in there and put pressure on the quarterback. The leadership and knowledge that Miller has already provided is more than you can ask for. And it’s only going to get better as the season goes on with more game footage to watch and learn from.

So far Miller has been worth every penny that we signed him for. When 40 is on the field, you know it because chances are he’s in the backfield making plays or helping his teammates make plays.

Cherish his time in Buffalo, Bills fans, we’re fortunate to have one of the best to ever do it at his position, be on our side of the ball.
