Under The Radar WR Patriots Could Target

The New England Patriots are entering a new era of football. After the team moved on from legendary head coach Bill Belichick and hired Jerod Mayo, it is entering its first rebuild in 20 years. The team finished poorly at 4-13 and is expected to draft one of the top quarterbacks available in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Whether it will be that rookie quarterback, such as UNC’s Drake Maye, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels, or veteran Jacoby Brissett starting in New England this upcoming season, the offense will not be successful without adding some weapons to support the quarterback. That is why the Patriots should be on the phone with Tampa Bay to acquire wide receiver Chris Godwin.

Chris Godwin Would Immediately Step In As Number One Target

Chris Godwin has been a stud since he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017. The 28-year-old has had three straight 1,000-yard campaigns, nearly 7,000 total yards, and 36 total touchdowns. He was pivotal in the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl championship season in 2020.

Although Godwin recently signed a three-year contract in 2022, he could be on the move. After the Buccaneers resigned quarterback Baker Mayfield, safety Antoine Winfield Jr, and receiver Mike Evans to big contracts this offseason, the team might be ready to move on from Godwin’s big contract.

With a loaded receiving class in this year’s draft, the Bucs could find Godwin’s replacement and production for a lot cheaper. Alongside Trey Palmer’s growth and tight end Cade Orrin’s flashes, the Bucs could be interested in sending off Godwin to New England.

Tampa Bay gets: 2024 3rd round pick (68)

The Patriots get their star wide receiver to support the quarterback for only a third-round pick while Tampa Bay will acquire their third selection in that round. With three third-round picks, the Bucs could easily trade up to acquire a second or even another first-round pick and select a wide receiver or other position of need.
