Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Retires From NFL
A two-time Super Bowl champion is stepping away from the National Football League. This comes in an off-season that has featured many surprising retirements, from future Hall Of Fame defensive tackle Aaron Donald to beloved superstar center Jason Kelce.
But another well-known player is calling it a career after over ten years in the league. Former Patriots safety Logan Ryan has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 33.
Logan Ryan Has Announced His Retirement From Football
Logan Ryan was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Rutgers. In seven games that started his rookie year, Ryan had a career-high five interceptions and just short of two sacks. He played in New England from 2013-2016, winning two Super Bowls.
In 2017, Ryan signed with the Tennessee Titans, where he was most notable for intercepting Tom Brady in the final minute of the Titans' playoff win vs New England in 2019. He helped send Tennessee to the divisional round. While the Titans fell short to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship, Ryan was a key contributor to the deep playoff run.
While he never reached more than five picks in a season after 2013, Logan Ryan finished with 18 total interceptions, including four in 2019 with the Tennessee Titans. He also added 13 sacks, including nearly nine with the Titans. Ryan only missed three games in three years in Nashville after playing in every game with New England. Reliability has been a strength in Ryan's career.
His final NFL seasons were with several different teams. Ryan signed with the New York Giants in 2020, where he recovered two fumbles and intercepted the final pass of his career. After two seasons in the Big Apple, Ryan played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022 and the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, where he saw his role diminish but was still able to play in the postseason.
