Three Takeaways From 24-8 Loss To Philadelphia

The Washington Commanders dropped to 1-2 after suffering their second consecutive loss of the season Sunday afternoon to arch-rival Philadelphia.

For the second week in a row, Washington came out flat in the first half, this week they only managed 50 yards to go along with zero points. The second half wasn’t much better, eight points were all this team can manage on the day.

Needless to say, Sunday’s game was hard for even the most diehard fan to watch.

Three Takeaways From First Philadelphia Game

It’s hard to find much of anything positive from this game after the team started in a 24-0 hole they couldn’t climb out of. Along the way, Wentz was sacked nine times, six in the first half alone. The team didn’t score its first points until defensive tackle Daron Payne tackled Boston Scott in the endzone for a safety at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Scott Turner’s Gameplaning Needs Work

Two weeks in a row now the team has fallen behind 20+ points, last week it was 22 points against Detroit on 56 total yards. While question marks are flying all over the place, one thing is for sure, the offensive game-planning is well deserving of an F the last two weeks if this were based on a grading scale.

You also have to call plays to fit the situation once you figure out your game plan isn’t working. Turner’s not having success with either in the first half of the last two football games against Detroit and Philadelphia.

Carson Wentz Needs To Get The Ball Out Quicker

While the offensive play-caller needs to put Carson Wentz in a better position overall, Wentz needs to get the ball out quicker. In a lot of situations against Philadelphia Sunday, Wentz would ignore hot routes in favor of waiting for other routes to open up. The end result had Wentz at fault for at least five of the nine sacks.

Scott Turner and Carson Wentz must get on the same page and soon if this team is going to stay afloat down the stretch.

Benjamin St Juste Needs To STAY Outside

Commanders defensive back Benjamin St-Juste got the information Sunday that he’d be moving outside to take over for William Jackson III (back injury) against Philadelphia. And take over he did, St-Juste turned in a stellar day against Philadelphia among a crowd of players on defense who should remain nameless, but will be talked about in this week’s stock up stock down.

When Jackson returns, St-Juste needs to stay outside and Kendall Fuller needs to slide to the slot.

Commanders Head Coach Ron Rivera was asked after Sunday’s game against Philadelphia where he feels the team is in the division.

“I think it it’s right where it needs to be. As far as I’m concerned, we still got 14 games left. We’re one and two. I mean, it’s an early part of the season, got a young group of guys that are getting opportunities to play, learn, and grow and develop as a unit. So, I do think this is a chance for us to continue to grow and get better. We are playing an awful amount of young guys out there, the only way to get better is through experience. We’ll take a few lumps right now. We’ll start giving them out pretty soon too.”
