Three Realistic Philadelphia Eagles Trade Scenarios Ahead Of The November 1st Trade Deadline
In the wake of this weeks Robert Quinn trade, are the Birds poised to make yet another splash in the trade market? With the November 1st deadline approaching at warp speed, another move could be on the horizon for the NFL’s only remaining unbeaten team.
As the Philadelphia Eagles plow though the rigors of the NFL’s regular season, and being unbeaten no less, the roster has virtually zero weak spots. Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman has already completed two in-season trades in the above-mentioned Robert Quinn deal with the Chicago Bears, and the dynamite trade with the New Orleans Saints for Safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.
Let’s not forget the draft day trade in the offseason to acquire former Tennessee Titans Wide Receiver A.J. Brown. Coming out of the bye week at 6-0, Philadelphia has a chance to set itself apart in the National Football League with another trade ahead of the looming deadline. Below are three hypothetical trades the Eagles could make to put their team squarely in a position of dominance as the 2022 regular season rolls on.
Eagles Receive: Running Back Kareem Hunt
Browns Receive: 2023 Third Round Pick
This trade makes WAY too much sense. It’s made sense for what seems like years now. Former 2017 Kansas City Chiefs third-round pick Kareem Hunt being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles would sure up the RB spot in a big way. Hunt, who led the NFL in rushing as a rookie in 2017, is a proven running back with a knack for making defenders miss and picking up first downs.
The perfect complement to Miles Sanders, Hunt would bolster the running back room and add yet another high caliber piece to this talented roster. Head Coach Nick Sirianni happens to be a big fan of Hunt, too. While current backup Running backs Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott, and Trey Sermon have shown flashes when called upon, this hypothetical Hunt-to-Philly trade establishes the Eagles as one of, if not the premier offense in the NFC. With Philly rumored to have been one of a handful of teams interested in trading for now San Francisco 49ers Running back Christian McCaffrey, the Eagles can get their veteran back in Kareem Hunt.
Eagles Receive: Safety Jabrill Peppers
Patriots Receive: 2024 Conditional Fifth Round Pick
Having already addressed the third level of the defense earlier this season, Howie Roseman and the front office have continued to revamp this Eagles secondary. Known by other GM’s around the league as a tough negotiator, Roseman will squeeze out any and all benefit he can when trading assets to and from his team.
Enter Bill Belicheck and the New England Patriots. More specifically, former Cleveland Browns first round pick and current Patriot Jabrill Peppers. While Peppers hasn’t lived up to his draft position, he could be used as a versatile player in the secondary for Eagles second-year Defensive Coordinator Johnathan Gannon and company. With questionable depth behind starting safeties Marcus Epps and the above-mentioned Chauncey Gardner Johnson, backups K’Von Wallace and Reed Blankenship simply could not be asked to handle the same responsibilities should either starter be out for an extended period of time. Jabrill Peppers could slide in and play a crucial role for this team down the stretch.
Eagles Receive: 2023 2nd Round Pick
Jets Receive: Offensive Tackle Andre Dillard
New York Jets General Manager Joe Douglas has history with Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles. Former Eagles first-round pick Andre Dillard happens to have history with Joe Douglas. With the Jets having lost star Offensive Linemen Meckhi Becton and Alijah Vera-Tucker due to injury, this trade would bolster New York’s O-Line immensely.
For the Eagles, they acquire what is likely to be a top sixty pick in the 2023 draft. The name of the game for the Eagles has always been building a roster through the trenches. Philadelphia’s front office also realizes it has an asset sitting on the bench week after week. Offensive Line Coach Jeff Stoutland has developed Jack Driscoll, Sua Opeta, and many other linemen into serviceable players who have played meaningful snaps when called upon. Thirty-one NFL franchises may be willing to pay a premium to acquire a starting caliber player in the likes of Andre Dillard. Given the Jets misfortunes with injury this season, the trade would be a welcomed outcome for both sides.
In Conclusion
The NFL’s trade deadline is set for Tuesday, November 1st at 4PM Eastern Standard Time. The Philadelphia Eagles sit atop the NFC East standings and hold the number one seed in the NFC heading into Week Eight action. With a roster already built for the postseason and a team eager to continue its undefeated streak, Philly may look to add another player to this impressive squad.
Whether it’s an upgrade at running back, safety, or acquiring additional draft capital heading into the offseason, the front office sees a clear path to a Super Bowl this year. Adding one more piece to this Philadelphia Eagles roster would only widen that path toward greatness in 2022 and beyond.
