This Fifth Round NFL Draft Pick Could Be The Biggest Steal

The 2024 NFL Draft has come and gone with all 32 teams selecting many players throughout the weekend. There were many expected picks such as the Chicago Bears making USC quarterback Caleb Williams the face of their franchise and Ohio State superstar receiver Marvin Harrison Jr staying in red, silver and black in Arizona. But there was one pick in the fifth round that could be the biggest steal of the draft and he will be suiting up for the New York Jets.

Jordan Travis Could Develop Into A Star Quarterback

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis was a big reason why the Seminoles finished the regular season undefeated and was also the reason the team did not qualify for the College Football Playoff. The 23-year-old threw for 2,734 yards, 20 touchdowns and only two interceptions adding seven more scores on the ground.

He was rewarded with being the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and finished fifth in voting for the Heisman Trophy. He was the first player to receive that award and not be drafted in the first-round of the NFL Draft since James Conner in 2014. Also, every player ahead of Travis in the Heisman voting also was selected in the first round of this year’s draft.

Jordan Travis' Season Ending Injury Why He Fell So Far

A big part of his draft fall was his season-ending injury, which encouraged the committee to omit Florida State from competing in the postseason. His lower-leg injury led teams to shy away from him, similar to Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral, who was at one point projected to go in the first-round but fell to the third-round. Corral suffered a season-ending injury in preseason and never got a chance with the Carolina Panthers.

Jordan Travis has proven to be one of the most talented and competitive quarterbacks in all of college football. Now he will sit and learn behind future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the foreseeable future.

But if things go to plan in New York, Rodgers could retire with a Super Bowl victory and hand the keys to Travis, who could be the new starting quarterback of the Jets if developed right. And he wouldn’t be the first Jordan to find success after sitting behind Rodgers for a couple years either.
